41,
tet;k
. BOARD OF SELECTMEN
TOWN 0[' MASHPEE
0 : :?...-
Personnel Board
FROM: Executive Secretary , Joseph F. Mur
DATE: January 25, 1985
RE : Salary of Deputy Police Chief
The Board of Selectmen on January 23 , 1985 appointed Maurice A. Cooper r. as Deputy
Chief of Police as per recommendation of the Personnel Board. The rate o Cpay as
established in the Personnel Administration Plan, as amended, is Grade 7. It is
my understanding Deputy Cooper will be paid at Step 1 rate as I am unaware of any
authorization by the Personnel Board for a higher rate.
Section V-3 of the Personnel Administration Plan states, to part, ". . .the hiring
race for a new employee shall be the minimum rate of pay for the position for which
the new employee is hired, unless otherwise authorized by the Board."
Prior to the special town meeting on December 3, 1984 when an appropriation was made
to fund this position, the computations to determine the amount to be appropriated
were based on Scep 1 of Grade 27.
It is my understanding that as a police sergeant Deupty Cooper's regular salary was
$441 .65 per week. In addition co the regular salary he received differential pay
and overtime . As the salary level for Grade 27 Step 1 is $484.17 per week, this is
the step that would customarily be applicable.
There have been discussions between Deputy Cooper and members of the Board of
Selectmen with regards to development of a personal services agreement between the
Town and Deputy Cooper that would effect compensation and benefits.
JFM/jm
cc: Town Accountant's
Chief of Police
Board of Selectmen
