Q(iTIT of C4UttSjjpCP
t eco P. O. eox 1108 MAF{ 0 1985
MASHPEE, MA 02649 2
3-19-35
To: The 3oard of Selectmen and Executive Secretary
From: The Shellfish Deoamment
Subject: Shellfish Grants of 11r. Richard Kuusela and ,tr. Francis Sullivan
Greetingsd
An Informal meeting was held on ,'Monday the lath at 3:pm at the home of Mr.
Kuusela. In attenance were Yx. Sullivan and Mr. Kuusela, their wives, and
Mr. James Ryder who works with Mr. Sullivan on his Grant. The Topic of con—
versation was the size and location of the Sullivan and Kuusela Shellfish
Grants.
The current location of their Grants limits public use of a most beautiful
and accessible portion of "laquoit Bay. Public access to the waterways is on
the decline so unlimited use of this area is very important to our future.
• after some conversation with all present at this meeting, it rras agreed that
. Sullivan and Ur. Kuusela would relinquish their rights to their current
Grant areas in exchange for another, smaller area situated by the mouth of
the Little and Great Rivers. ( see attachment)
This new location is acceptable to them without reservation and represents
a most reasonable compromise to the Town of ':.lashpee. 'therefor, I have in—
formally agreed to the following:
1. Termination of current Grant areas to coincide with approval of the new
location.
2. A seven year Grant Permit for the new location.
3. A reasonable period of time for them to transfer their stock to the new area.
4. Aquaculture permits to float rafts in the neer area.
5. Public scalloping will be allowed over their new location.
Sullivan and Kuusela geserne may thanks for their cooperation on this very
important ratter. it was no small decision on their part. ';!e should, in return,
show thea equal concern and he)p speed this process in any way we can,
y target date for completion of Trois transfer is .ay 21st. I am at your ser—
vice to assist with the details of this important process.
:dddlleton E.01-_alley—Keyes
Shellfish Warden
