Enforcement <br /> The use of sobriety checkpoints can provide an important component <br /> of an effective enforcement system designed to raise the perceived prob- <br /> ability of apprehension for OUI. This General Order is intended to pro- <br /> vide guidelines for program and operational procedures which must be fol- <br /> lowed to insure compliance with existing court accepted guidelines. <br /> General <br /> A. Sobriety checkpoints will not be conducted without prior approv- <br /> al of the Chief of Police or the Deputy Chief of Police. <br /> B. The selection of the date, day, time and location of each sobri- <br /> ety checkpoint will be based on applicable collision, enforce- <br /> ment data, and general public safety requirements, and such sel- <br /> ection shall be made by the Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of <br /> Police. <br /> C. The Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of Police shall insure that <br /> no less than one days notice of an impending checkpoint is pro- <br /> vided to the news media for dissemination to the ,general public. <br /> D. The Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of Police shall conduct a <br /> briefing for all personnel assigned to operate the sobriety <br /> checkpoint and shall provide them with required guidelines and <br /> procedures as well as answer questions concerning operation. <br /> Physical Construction of Sobriety Checkpoints <br /> A. All sobriety checkpoints established by the Mashpee Police De- <br /> partment shall be consistent with current court acceptable pro- <br /> cedures in regards' to the use of warning signs, barricades, traf- <br /> fic cones, warning lights and other safety equipment and/or warn- <br /> ing devices that may be requiredY14 <br />
