If there are insufficient officers available to properly <br /> conduct the checkpoint at any given time, then the on- <br /> scene supervisor-'may terminate_-the-checkpoint until—sca�h --- <br /> time as officers become available. <br /> D. Documentation shall be maintained on the length of time <br /> the checkpoint was suspended and the reason for the sus- <br /> pension. <br /> E. The supervisor shall insure that statistics are maintained <br /> on the number of vehicles through the checkpoint, the num- <br /> ber of drivers field tested, the number of drivers arrest- <br /> ed, and the charges brought against such drivers. <br /> Avoidance of Checkpoint <br /> A. Vehicles that muFce a U-turn in order to avoid the check- <br /> point will be followed by a chase officer for a distance <br /> not to exceed one mile. If the chase officer observes a <br /> violation, he may stop the vehicle and proceed as if on a <br /> routine traffic contact. If no violation is observed, the <br /> chase officer will return to the checkpoint site without <br /> stopping the vehicle. <br /> B. Drivers who refuse to roll down their window in order to <br /> make contact with an officer shall be waved through and <br /> followed by a chase officer for a distance not to exceed <br /> one mile. The same procedure as outlined in Section "A" <br /> shall apply. <br /> C. Vehicles that refuse to stop at the checkpoint may be stop- <br /> ped and the drivers cited for the appropriate violation(s) . <br /> Such drivers should be examined for signs of impairment. <br /> D. Drivers who refuse to participate or cooperate for any rea- <br /> son shall not be detained solely for that reason.
