General Order - Page 2 <br /> -- _—_--- ------- --- —_ __ Mr�sts-Involving Drivin --- <br /> While Intoxicated <br /> F) Approach the drinking driver with due caution, but with <br /> minimal delay. <br /> G) Make sure the violators vehicle is safe, engine turned <br /> off, and brake properly set. <br /> H) Get the violator out of his vehicle and to a safe loca- <br /> tion on the curb side of the police vehicle; very care- <br /> fully observing the violator's actions and statements. <br /> I) Observe and note any unusual occurrences or conditions <br /> relative to the driver. <br /> J) Obtain the person's driver's license or other identifica- <br /> tion. <br /> K) If itis determined the driver is under the influence of <br /> intoxicating liquor an arrest will be made. <br /> L) If the officer feels another condition has affected the <br /> driver's behavior, other appropriate response shall be <br /> taken (i.e. medical aid) . <br /> M) Once the person is arrested for driving while intoxicated, <br /> he will be transported to the police station and his vehi- <br /> cle will be ( locked) secured or towed at the violator's <br /> request and expense. The violator's vehicle shall be tow- <br /> ed by the police department only when authorized pursuant <br /> to the General Order regarding the towing of motor vehicles. <br /> N) The violator will be advised of his rights relative to all <br /> applicable federal and state laws. <br /> 0) If the violator submits to a chemical test for intoxication <br /> it shall be administered by a qualified person. <br /> P) If the chemical test for intoxication does not substantiate <br /> the officer's observations, other causes for the violator's <br /> condition will be examined. A drug other than alcohol may <br /> be considered. <br />
