} <br /> General Order 500.25 P <br /> SUBJECT: Mandated Training/Education, Topic Discussions, and In-Service <br /> Training Program <br /> I. PURPOSE: <br /> This General Order outlines procedures and responsibilities for the <br /> conduct of training of all personnel as mandated by the General Laws of <br /> Massachusetts and as directed by the Chief of Police. <br /> II. POLICY: <br /> A. This Agency recognizes the ever-increasing complexity of our society <br /> and the resultant increasing demand being placed upon Law Enforcement Officers <br /> and shall encourage the support and involvement, of all organizational personnel <br /> in the training function. <br /> B. Sworn and civilian personnel of this Department shall be afforded the <br /> opportunity to increase their professional skill, education and career competence <br /> in police/job related matters through in-service training sessions. <br /> C. These short sessions are considered an integral part of career development. <br /> III. PROCEDURES: <br /> A. The Chief of Police shall appoint three (3) members of the Department <br /> who shall serve on the Mashpee Police Department Training Council. The Council <br /> shall, under the direction of the Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of Police, <br /> plan, coordinate, and carry-out, a program of training to facilitate the needs <br /> of the organization and secondly, provide individual guidance in career development. <br /> IV. RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> A. The Mashpee Police Department Training Council shall hold regular meetings <br /> and vote annually to elect a Chairman. Under the direction of the Chief or Deputy <br /> Chief of Police it shall be the responsibility of the Council to: <br /> 1. Arrange, schedule and implement all in-service training programs <br /> administered by the Department. <br /> 2. Arrange and schedule personnel for outside professional training <br /> courses. <br /> 3. Assure that all personnel have current certification in courses <br /> required by the Massachusetts General Laws. <br /> 4. Arrange for outside professional personnel to instruct in-service <br /> training classes when needed. <br /> 5. Maintain individual personnel training records of a type approved <br /> by the Chief of Police. <br /> 6. Prepare and present an operating budget for the training programs <br /> to the Chief of Police for the annual Town Meeting. <br /> 7. Prepare and present to the Chief or Deputy Chief of Police an annual <br /> Training Council Report for the Town Report. <br />
