F <br /> + t <br /> Board of- Selectmen - <br /> Regular Meeting <br /> Wednesday, June 18 , 1986 <br /> Appointments cont'd, <br /> 8 : 00 - Dr. Aubrey was before the Board. to update them on the <br /> opponesset dredging project. He handed out a status report. .. He <br /> explained the project was now being delayed due to an appeal filed <br /> to DEQE by Cotuit residents concerned with speeding and iarge''boAts <br /> coming through if the bay is dredged. <br /> Selectman Lawrence said he was concerned with people receiving mis- <br /> information. <br /> is- <br /> information. Dr, Aubrey said people were free to call him and Dr. <br /> liaise 'for information. Mr. Lew Schwartz said he was satisfied <br /> that 'people who have been working on it have done a good job. He 's <br /> not happy it hasn' t been done but felt the blame couldn 't be put on <br /> the people working on the project. Mr.' San Re felt it was too bad <br /> the town didn#t have a building committee for the project or a _ <br /> project manager, Mr. Ernest Roberts said the Waterways Committee" <br /> .r..� has been very much involvedwith the--pr' t Arfd` a �_*4.`.�___ <br /> committee who initiated the project <br /> There was discussion on whether .it was necessary to go out and rebid. <br /> Town Counsel stated them was such an increase in the -scope of the <br /> work from the original specifications to consti.tue a -sicinif cant <br /> departure from the original and warrants therm going out to rebid.. <br /> He said Mr. -Hannon indicated thatt was very prudent -to go back <br /> out to bid, however he ' s not going to order it. Selectman Hanson <br /> said they will schedule a, meeting with 'down Counsel, the arbormas.ter, <br /> Ernie Roberts, Dr. Aubrey, the Selectmen, Mr. Hannon -and Lew Schwartz <br /> for 3 : 00 p.m. on June 26 to furthr discuss this . <br /> 8: 30 - The Board met with Wendy Rubin, Director of Parks Recreation. <br /> Mr. Murphy informed her that the department heads will be meeting <br /> with Selectmen one morning every - other month instead of Wednesday <br /> evenings . Ms. Rubin said the beaches will -be under good control <br /> and she has extra staff this year. She said she has new programs <br /> and she ' s received tickets to give out to kids for the kids concerts <br /> at the Melody Tent. She' s sola 700 beach stickers and will keep <br /> gate logs o see if seniors are using their beach s -icer She <br /> also said Mr. Virgilio was doing a good job getting everything to- <br /> gether. <br /> o-gether. She said trees were cleared on the new ballfield and it <br /> should be opened at next gear ' s opening day. <br /> oo - The Board met with DPW Director Ernest Virgilio. a said he' <br /> received Chapter 90 approval for new surfaces on Quinnaquisset Avenue <br /> and Great Neck Road south, He said hers looking at practical recon- <br /> s,truction of South Sandwich Road and 'is working .with -the utility <br /> companies in moving the utilities back and he will add drainage -and <br /> take out the bumps. Also Lo .ell and Old Barnstable Roads need new <br /> . surfacing. He ' s doing to build up the edges and put- in drainage. <br /> He ' s brought hardening to. the dirt end of the beach on -great Oak Road <br /> and added drainage ditch, He said- they have completed the process <br /> for the new supervisor' s position and Selectmen should be receiving <br /> his recommendations in the next two weeks. <br />
