F + t Board of- Selectmen - Regular Meeting Wednesday, June 18 , 1986 Appointments cont'd, 8 : 00 - Dr. Aubrey was before the Board. to update them on the opponesset dredging project. He handed out a status report. .. He explained the project was now being delayed due to an appeal filed to DEQE by Cotuit residents concerned with speeding and iarge''boAts coming through if the bay is dredged. Selectman Lawrence said he was concerned with people receiving mis- information. is- information. Dr, Aubrey said people were free to call him and Dr. liaise 'for information. Mr. Lew Schwartz said he was satisfied that 'people who have been working on it have done a good job. He 's not happy it hasn' t been done but felt the blame couldn 't be put on the people working on the project. Mr.' San Re felt it was too bad the town didn#t have a building committee for the project or a _ project manager, Mr. Ernest Roberts said the Waterways Committee" .r..� has been very much involvedwith the--pr' t Arfd` a �_*4.`.�___ committee who initiated the project There was discussion on whether .it was necessary to go out and rebid. Town Counsel stated them was such an increase in the -scope of the work from the original specifications to consti.tue a -sicinif cant departure from the original and warrants therm going out to rebid.. He said Mr. -Hannon indicated thatt was very prudent -to go back out to bid, however he ' s not going to order it. Selectman Hanson said they will schedule a, meeting with 'down Counsel, the arbormas.ter, Ernie Roberts, Dr. Aubrey, the Selectmen, Mr. Hannon -and Lew Schwartz for 3 : 00 p.m. on June 26 to furthr discuss this . 8: 30 - The Board met with Wendy Rubin, Director of Parks Recreation. Mr. Murphy informed her that the department heads will be meeting with Selectmen one morning every - other month instead of Wednesday evenings . Ms. Rubin said the beaches will -be under good control and she has extra staff this year. She said she has new programs and she ' s received tickets to give out to kids for the kids concerts at the Melody Tent. She' s sola 700 beach stickers and will keep gate logs o see if seniors are using their beach s -icer She also said Mr. Virgilio was doing a good job getting everything to- gether. o-gether. She said trees were cleared on the new ballfield and it should be opened at next gear ' s opening day. oo - The Board met with DPW Director Ernest Virgilio. a said he' received Chapter 90 approval for new surfaces on Quinnaquisset Avenue and Great Neck Road south, He said hers looking at practical recon- s,truction of South Sandwich Road and 'is working .with -the utility companies in moving the utilities back and he will add drainage -and take out the bumps. Also Lo .ell and Old Barnstable Roads need new . surfacing. He ' s doing to build up the edges and put- in drainage. He ' s brought hardening to. the dirt end of the beach on -great Oak Road and added drainage ditch, He said- they have completed the process for the new supervisor' s position and Selectmen should be receiving his recommendations in the next two weeks.
