PERSONNEL BOARD MEETING - 2- August 31 1981 <br /> Chief Willis, Deputy Volpe and Firefighter James I edeiros who all <br /> resigned as of June 30, 1981. Mr. Culp feels his interpretation <br /> of the Plan &nd Contract is that they be paid for Longevity. <br /> Mr. Rich told Mr, Culp that he would have the natter clarified <br /> at our next meeting, <br /> This Board received a request for bereavement leave of two days <br /> for Walter Jacbbson, Superintendent of Streets , due to his father',s <br /> death. Mr. Jacobson has one (l ' month left of his,pr l ationary period. <br /> The Board unanimously voted to waive his probationary period under the <br /> circumstances . � r. <br /> A resignation was received from Miss Dorothy Carter, Sent rClerk/ <br /> Inspectors ' Department, e feetive August 14 , 1981. The job will be <br /> posted within for seven 7 days as required under the Contract. <br /> It was brought to the Board' s attention that three letters were <br /> received regarding Mr. warden Kelly, One was in reference to his <br /> not ]peeping up with his work. one letter was in reference to his <br /> not calling in sick on July 23rd and Marilyn Hendricks calling his <br /> house and waking him. He reported to work at 9 : 30 a.m. Again on <br /> Friday, July 24th, there was no call and again Marilyn Hendricks <br /> called at 10 :00 a.m. at which time you stated that you did not feel <br /> well and you were staying home. On Monday, July 27th, when -he'---,reported <br /> to wrk he was given the's'e letters , he became angry and walked out. <br /> Mrs. Hammond, Treasurer, deduct d ' eight hours from his pay cheek <br /> as unexeused absences . <br /> Mr. Kelly filed a grievance as to the deduction of salary claiming he <br /> has plenty of sick time. <br /> Mrs . Hammond answered the grievance stating that he was in violation <br /> of the Contract where it stated that you are to call in sick within <br /> one 1 hour of the time you are to report .to work., <br /> The Board voted to author i e.. the hiring of temporary help for the <br /> Inspectors ' Department until we are able to fill the job. <br /> Mr, Rich suggested that Barbara Russell tae called to see if she could <br /> give some time to Chief Gould until the job was fill d'.in his department. <br /> With us one 1 month into the new fiscal year, the Personnel Doan <br /> discussed the reorganization of the Board. It was unanimously voted <br /> that Nor. James F. Rich remain Chairman and it was unanimously voted <br /> that firs . Caroline Gilligan be Clerk, The Board also voted to give <br /> Karen Hale, Secretary to the Personnel Board, the authority to sign <br /> all vacation, personal, bereavement, etc. requests and other routine <br /> da.il.y matters for the Chairman of the- Board. <br /> This meeting ad j ourned at 8 : 45 .m. <br /> Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 10, 1981, at 4 : 30 P,m, <br /> for the purpose of negotiating the Highway Contract., - <br />
