r , <br /> Personnel Board Minutes Page <br /> eting of Bch 7, 19$3 <br /> Selectman Garland asked why the Board placed the Police QAef at grade 31, step 3 and <br /> not at grade 30, step 4. or grade 29, rnaxiu . <br /> Dave commented that the -Board tried to fit the existing salary as close as they could and <br /> that they addressed each job to see if it should. be adjusted. <br /> Selectman Garland asked, why the Police Chief was put at .the' highest grade conmienting that <br /> you could get run away with costs. He asked the Board if there was a rage set to hire <br /> people at <br /> Dare cormented that the Board las not addressed job -descriptions as far as brac eting ..the <br /> salaries. <br /> Selectman Thomas commented that both areas should be addressed as they are both equally as <br /> Important. She mentioned that in comparing' the- Fire def to other towns, we are rpt <br /> high; in fact, we are still low. <br /> Bob said that Mashpee has to'be compared.with small towns but we have to look at other <br /> towns and try to come in between. <br /> Selectman Hanson commented that our Fire def has as much work as Falmouth-r s :re Chief* <br /> Selectman Thomas said that we should be looking at the nurrber.of men and territories o <br /> tis commented that when the- Personnel Board received the -priority letter to do the com- <br /> a ative study. that they cid not know what they were getting into. He said that the more <br /> he talked with people in town and looked into it and saw what -a person does and reviewed <br /> the town report, his feelings were that.-people are underpaid for the responsibilities that <br /> they have and that his recommendation were higher than what is on the IBM sheet. <br /> Fred -Blythe recalled that in,the past raises. were automatic*- <br /> Manuel said that the Personnel Boated dotes not plan to do it that way In the future.. <br /> Selectman Thomas commented that the person may stay at the same grade until they are moved <br /> UP* <br /> Fred Bl.yther still maintained that it has happened in thia past. <br /> Bare asked Fred if he felt that -there should be a merit -increase.. <br /> 4 <br /> Fred replied lldefinitely the town' is running million dollar business!" <br /> Caroline commented that she- worked try years-and saw -many inequities and that employee-s <br /> grades were held up. <br /> Selectman Garland comm nted that he was in. opposition to a step system as it was badly <br /> a used.
