Personnel Board
Meeting of October 22, 1984 Page 2
Interviews of Natural. Resource Officer
The Board, along with the assistance of B. Jean Thomas, interviewed the following
candidates for the position of Natural Resource Officer: williait Ryder, Donna Dibbern,
Russell viton, Daniel. Gilmore, Charles Lawrence, Donna Blanchette, and Joseph Smith.
Another candidate, who was unable to attend tonight's interviews due to military re-
quirements will be interviewed next week.
With reference to the job description for the position, Carrie Saunders suggested that
it should be improved. Jean Thomas agreed with Carrie commenting that ars individual
would have very little tools to work with.
Memo from chief Hartin re: Tuition Reimbursement
The' Board reviewed a memo dated October j, 1984 from' Chief Martin relative to the Board's
denial of course approval for Firefighters Rylander~ and Baker due to their~ probationary
status. Chief Hartin asked if the Board would consider a conditional approval based on
satisfactory completion of probation or if they would consider resubmission of their re-
quest at the time the probationary period ends, which is December 5. The Board was in
agreement that no applications for course approval or tuition reimbursement will be ap-
proved while an employee is on probation.
Memo from Executive Secretary re: salary of Building Inspector & Assistant
In a memo dated October 18, the Bard was asked to send their recommendations to the
Board of selectmen relative o the salaries of the building inspector and assistant.
The Board reviewed the salary comparison which the secretary presented. Carrie felt
that the positions should be straightened out. first. The Board designated Manuel
Glickman to follow up on the comparison survey and to review the job descriptions.
Rates of Pay - Tem'por'ary Dispatcher
The secretary brought to the attention of the Board that two different rates of pay were
being given to the temporary dispatchers as follows : Glen Rogers, who was hired as a
part-time dispatcher~ at $5.30 per hoax-, was continued to be paid at that rate while he
filled in for the nicht dispatcher'. Marilyn Rasche, who was hired as a Special Police
Officer at $5.30 per your~, was paid at a rate of $6.12 per hour while filling in for
the day-time dispatcher position. Since Glen Rogers was hired as the night time dis-
patcher and is now being paid $6.12 per hour, the Board felt that they should not change
the- ratb as set by the department head; but they did appreciate being made aware of the
situation so that things like this won't happen in the future without approval of the
Personnel Board.
Memo from Executive se cr tary - re: Town Physician '
The Board tabled the memo from the Executive Secretary dated October 18 relative to a
letter~ received from George Silva, M.D. of Mashpee offering his services to the town
for the yearly physical examinations.
Meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn -Farren, Secretary
Personnel Board
mf
