Wendy said that the Board <br /> had agreed to have her do the'interviews.for the lifeguards; however, she felt that a <br /> back-up system should be in effect. Deference was made to the firing of Theresa Gomes <br /> with Wendy commenting that she did verbal check on employment background but that she had <br /> falsified information on the application whih4was not picked up at the time. She agreed <br /> that the Personnel secretary should be assisting her~ in the background cheek. Wendy- com- <br /> mented that she is now keeping a disciplinary log on all employees in her department. <br /> With reference to the response on the advertising for the position of Recreation Aide, <br /> Wendy said that there were nine applicants for the position. The Board asked that she <br /> choose the most qualified to be interviewed. <br /> Wendy made reference to the Parr & Recreation Committee F's concerns of lifeguards leaving <br /> early to go back to school as they felt they should not be hired back next season. Carrie <br /> Saunders, suggested that when filling the positions that she concentrate on a mixed bag by <br /> looking at colleges the kids are at and selecting out different admissions. Wendy <br /> was asked why the Town of Mashpee does not get a tremendous response from individuals to be <br /> lifeguards. Trendy said that the pay is a problem {about 25 cents lower than Falmouth) and <br /> that the Town of Falmouth is more attractive in that the lifeguards look to see where the <br /> girls are. She also mentioned that the' Town of Mashpee has also had a problem with one of <br /> its beaches -- co m nting that hiring individuals to work specific beaches would be a way of <br /> eliminating that. NOTE: The Board asked that the lifeguard pay be looked at more closely. <br /> Wendy also suggested hiring three head lifeguards for each of the beaches in order to elimin- <br /> ate pay differential. <br /> 0 eference was made by Wendy to her job description commenting that the title was not clean <br /> as it reams "Park and recreation Department" and -the town by-law calls her a "Recreation ' <br /> Director" with responsibilities to 'include parks, beaches (not responsible for clean u . <br /> She said that she would want to maintain input in planning and developing of parks; however, <br /> instead of being responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of grounds, she would life to <br /> see the job description changed to "oversee the maintenance". Manny Glickman suggested ` <br /> that a meeting be' set up with Ernie and Wendy along -with the Personnel Board to discuss both <br /> job descriptions. Ben Eofchie agreed to look at both job descriptions a it may say differ- <br /> ent in -Public works Director's job description. Wendy said that she was submitting an article <br /> for town meeting to change her title to "Park and Recreation Director" and that she was in <br /> favor~ of meeting with Ernie and the Board. <br /> Wendy said that she had recreation Department information and the set up of other towns. <br /> Manny asked to review it commenting that it might help the Board make decisions of any con- <br /> flicts which may arise. <br /> Manny asked Wendy if she thought the John's Pond area t , be a rough area? Wendy said that <br /> it was passive recreation in terms of activities. She said that she had spent a -day there <br /> and there were mostly Coast Guard families that used the pond and that there were no problems <br /> as yet_ <br /> Request of Earle Mar;sters <br /> The secretary told ,the Board that she had received a request from Earle Marsters, a Planning <br /> Board. member and- a land developer in town, to review Town Planner applications or to obtain <br /> list of names and addresses of applicants as he is planning- to hire a Town Planner for his <br /> rganiation. The Board felt that passing on information of applicants may run into a legal <br /> problem; but that if town counsel approved they would agree to write to candidates telling <br /> them that a position has openned up in private industry. <br />
