PERSONNEL BOARD MEETING OF JANUARY , 1984 iAHEE TTN HALL The following members of the Pe-rsonnel Board were present : Robert Sullivan , Chairman , Caroline Gilligan , David Hardy, Manuel Glickman and Carrie Saunders . Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting a 6 : 10 p.m . k Discu sion n Administ rin Tests J Caroline commented that she w ,s concerned about who would be a lmini ter- ing the typing tests f(.r Board Secretaries . Bob commented that he felt that test' could b� given, by members of the Board . Carrie said that the Board should decide on who is to 'administer the testing . Dave said that he recalled the authority being granted to Marilyn Farren to administer the dminist - the tests . Discussion was tabled. Inter-views for Call Firefighters The folio ~Yng candidates were interviewed for call firefighter along with the assistance of Chief Harti : John Tavares and Glen Rogers . Another candidate , Stephen Austin ,, failed to keep the appo41_ntm .nt because of para- medic school. . The two candidates interviewed were qualified for the job. Two other can- didates Ai tervie d at the Board ' s meeting of January 9 were also quali- fied : uali-fi d : George Cole and I anlel Kelley. Since the Chief is looking to hire five call firefighters , one position remains unfilled . Board members were in afire mei�t to have the Chief call .in Stephen Austin for an interview to see if he were qualified - rather than go the route of advertising Cat this time . Discussion cf Physicals and Fitness Program Discussion was made with the Chief with r. r�rd to fitness of the men and physicals . The Chief commented that the information received on the forms filled out by -the physician last year was of no use . He said that physicians do not understand the requirements of the Sob. He explained that if a change were needed in a person ' s size , there is not too much he can coo if lie were to try to suspend or take' disciplinary action as nothing has br�en documented . Carrie asked if- he could initiate ire-service performance standards for the purpose ' of keeping one up to snuff .. The Chief replied that there are minimum standards for the performance of fire grounds tests . Danny asked if he were planning to develop a format The Chief replied that he p;1ans to develop a fc.r mat within the next year and that ars evaluation will be part of it .
