_/.
PERSONNEL BOARD MINUTES PAGE 2
MEETING OF MARCH 9, 1992
Rita commented that the person hired would be reporting to the Chief
and would have to have the right chemistry. Referring to the recent
hiring process of the Town Planner' s Administrative Secretary, Rita
suggested that Personnel screen the resumes of applications on file,
send the resumes of those qualified over for him to look at and meet
with initially.
Chief Ridgeway indicated that he would prefer the reversed process .
He said that he wanted to interview finally and that he always works
closely with the Personnel Assistant.
With regard to using the hourly rate in the job advertisement, the
Chief had no objection.
Manaaer of Informational Systems
The Board reviewed a memo dated February 11 from Kevin Harrington
regarding the creation of the position of Manager of Informational
Systems .
The Board members indicated that they needed time to review the
position before discussing it.
Rita wondered why we were going to hire a high paid manager when we
don' t have computer systems. Leo said that they need to have
someone come in and straighten the town out.
Jane Stockbridge indicated that she would make an appointment with
Kevin Harrington to discuss this position.
Creation of Natural Resources Director
The Board also reviewed a memo dated February 11 from Kevin
Harrington regarding the creation of the position of Natural
Resources Director. Jane Stockbridge commented that the title of
Natural Resources Director seems to involve conservation. Rita
asked if it seems logical to consolidate the positions? Jane
commented that in the past they haven' t been getting along too well .
Leo said that he had a difficult time swallowing both positions
together. Jane Stockbridge said that Shellfish and Conservation
seem to go together better than Shellfish and Harbormaster. Leo
commented that the position needs someone very responsible.
Jane will also meet with Kevin Harrington to discuss this position.
The Board members were given a copy of a letter to the Board of
Selectmen from John Ferriday dated March 7, 1992 which stated that
when considering the combining of the Shellfish Warden and
Harbormaster into a Natural Resources Department, the officer be a
person with intimate knowledge of shellfish and their propagation.
