Mr. Hanson said that it was rade quite apparent during discussion concerning the position of Fire Chief that firemen feel very strongly that management Of a fire department is a job for a full-tire Fire Ch-ief and that in order for such a. department to operate at maximum effectiveness a "day-to-day" on-going management is necessary. Acting Fine Chief, Peter Lawrence , concurred with this opinion as did John Malone whose appointment as temporary, interim Fire Chief had been discussed '} y the Board on May 13, 1987 . The appointment ent of Lieutenant William Chase as interim fire chief was discussed. 1t was she consensus ofopinion that an "in-house" appointment is preferable until such time as a full-time chief is hired. Mro Chase has served in the capacity of Acting Fire Chief previously. Mr. Hanson moved that the Board of Selectmen appoint Lieutenant William Chase as Acting Fire Chief of the Town of l a hpe e . Mr. Gottlieb seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous . Itieutenant Chase will meet with members of the Board Thursday, May 219 1987 to discuss issues of this appointment. Regarding the search -for a full-tire permanent Fire Chief, after di cus s i on, it was unanimously agreed that the two job des- criptions s- criptions for this position be fitted into one job description and that the Personnel Board will be requested to act on this job des era-ption immediately by advertisement of this position, Further, the Personnel Board will be requested to take affirmative action in such a way so as to complete the hiring process within sixty d a.y . . Weston & Sampson re : 8537 Mashpee Facility Plan - Eeview Meeti.x�� Michael Manion of Weston & Sampson Engineers , Inc . , and Thomas Fudala, Town Plc-nner, were present to summarize the proceedings of a meeting with DEQE on April , 1987 concerning the status of the Mashpee Facility Plan and. the , need for a grant amendment to perforin work outside the original scope of services . A written communication dated May 189 1987 has been received from Weston & Sampson detailing the outcome of the meeting. weston Sampson has recommended that a septage treatment facility be located on the parcel of land presently occupied in part by the existing sanitary landfill. The letter also discussed other exploratory needs . Mr. Hanlon requested the Board's concurrence to further explore speci- fically peci- fically the sub-regional concept of treatment facilities and out- lined the steps to be included in this exploration as previously stated in the letter of May 18, 1987, also to be investigated will e the cost of assimilating these facts into a proposal to present to DEE and to explore this grant process . Mr. Gottlieb moved that the Board of Selectmen authorize Weston & Sampson Engineers , Inc . to explore these proposals as presented in the com unicat]-on dated May 18 , 1987. Mr. Lawrence seconded the motion. The vote was unani- mous * nani- mous .
