Assistant Harbormaster - Mr. Carter noted that at <br /> meeting of the Board of Selectmen held, on July 1, 1987 , a motion to <br /> appoint Donald Lund , former special waterways Policeman, to the posi- <br /> tion of Assistant Har'bor'master resulted in a. vote of those Selectmen <br /> present of 2 - 2a At that time it was decided to put this matter on <br /> the agenda for this evenin'g's meeting -for further discussion. Ir. <br /> Lund was present and said, "It is y understanding that a, fitness <br /> report has been requested from the Chief of Police , on ane and I 'd <br /> like to see that fitness report before I speak further" . Mr. Hanson, <br /> who had requested the fitness report, said that he had informed the <br /> Chief that he was no longer seeking the fitness-report information. <br /> Mr. Lund <br /> gave an accounting of hisan 'ea.rs experience as a Special <br /> Waterways ays Policer an. i <br /> a. n support of his candidacy for appointment. <br /> The Harbormaster stated that Leo=:Turo and Robert Sullivan were pat- <br /> rolling <br /> a.t- <br /> r'olling ponds this past weekend, specifically John's Pond. and Ias hpe e- <br /> wa. eby Pond so that "both ponds were being patrolled" . After dis- <br /> cussion, Mr. Carter moved to appoint Donald Lund as Assistant Harbor- <br /> master. It was deemed that this was not a legal motion due to -the <br /> notion and deadlock vote of last week. Mr. Carter then moved to re- <br /> coni der the vote of last week on the appointment of Mr & Lund to the <br /> Position of Assistant Harbormaster. Mrs . Thomas seconded the mota.on,, <br /> l r o Hanson and 1 . Lawrence voted against this motion, Mr. Gottlieb, <br /> as an Assistant lTarbormastery had stepped down from discuss]-on and a . <br /> action relating to this ratter; therefore , the vote on lir. Carter's <br /> motion to reconsider, 0 *was 2 - 20 f <br /> CO Constable , The Chairwoman reviewed the possibility of <br /> a, conflict-of-interest situation if the Chief of Police were appointed <br /> as Constable, Chief Frye said that he has received an opinion on the <br /> situation from Town Counsel telephonically but has not yet received <br /> such an opinion inwriting, He was una '�.o to supply names of persons <br /> interested in serving in the position of Constable . I , Thomas noted <br /> that without a constable , there was no one available to legally post <br /> warrants that need to be posted in the very near future . Mr. Lawrence <br /> moved that Chief of Police , Curtis Frye , be appointed a Constable. <br /> Mr. Carter seconded the r otionSr.. Hans' n�i � -Mrs. <br /> . . s omas voted � <br /> favor of the motion.. Nor. Gottlieb abstained" from voting, <br /> d. Keeper of the -Lock-u Police Chief Frye recommended the <br /> appointment of Police Dis pa.thc ers Elizabeth . Beeler and Cindy Thompson <br /> on <br /> as Keepers of the Lock-up, lir. Hanson moved that Elizabeth Beeler and <br /> Cindy Thompson on be appointed as Keepers of the lock-up effective July 1, <br /> 1987. Mr. Lawrence seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. <br /> e. Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee , Mr. Hanson <br /> moved to appoint Sheryl Holmes to fill a. vacancy that exists on the <br /> Parks and recreation Advisory Committee. Nor.
