Mr. Lawrence moved that the Town enter into aagreement with Braman Engineering Company for engineeri xe ng services for dredging and disposal of the Popponesset Ba.y area.. Mr. Carter seconded the motion, The vote was unanimous . After execution by all members of the Board of Selectmen, the contract will be hand-delivered to Tern Counsel., Mr. Schwartz said -tha.t all permits should be available by Friday, July 10, 1987. NEW BUSINESS : 1. Fire Department - recommendation from Acting Chief. Chase . Acting Chief nhase was present and re-ferred to his communi- cation of Tune 24, 1987 concerning the appointment of Richard Martini as Acting Lieutenant effective July 1, 1987 to fill the vacancy created when lir. Chase was appointed to Acting Chief status . Acting Chief Chase recommended that Richard Martini be paid the same o as the other extended acting officer positions since he will be Acting lieutenant for an extended period of time . Mr' Gottlieb roved that Richard Martini be appointed Acting Li to .=ant.-.effec ire. July 1, 198,7--.-as re- -commended by Acting Chief Chase, Acting Chief Chase discussed budget problems and projected cuts of the Fire Department which will have to be made to come within the proper amount of wages , salaries and expenses that the Town voted. Ile said, 'I want tO make it very clear that the way we are dealing with emergencies is on a, first come first served basis". Cuts will have to e made on recall O Acting Chief Chase also discussed a. sale of the hose-reel pumper saying that he had hear' a, rumor t. f- that effect. 66 that the Board of Selectmen had mentioned the possibility of such a. sale. Mr. Gottlieb asked for a simple report on the hose-reel pumper such as its function, realistic sale price . usefulness to the Town - in the future , etc . Acting Chief Chase said that Middlesex Fire Apparatus in e r o nt, company which sold the pumper to the T own, has expressed interest in burring it back for $80 0000 - $10,000. less than the ori- ginal sale price - and using that 802000. as a. credit against the purchase of a new attack engine . The engine the Town now owns is seg enteerg years old and "is going into the rehab stage"'' It was unani-mously agreed to have Acting Chief Chase put his -ideas and re- commndations into a report for the Board Acting Chief Chase concluded by saying, "If the Town were to obtain or find funds in the near future , restoration of $60 o,9 to my wage account, we could maintain manpower on a. bare level", 2.
