• 1 <br /> Board of Selectmen Page Five <br /> Regular Meeting <br /> Monday, August 24, 198' <br /> NEW BUSINESS : <br /> 1. Requests for legal services . The Conservation <br /> Comissi on hasarequested the services� f Town Counsel regarding, <br /> 1 construction on lots abutting Town-owned cranberry bogs in <br /> Santuit woods ; 2 Proposed easement on John's Pond Park for <br /> the Air National Guard, Mrs Lawrence moved- that both requests <br /> be allowed. Mr. Gottlieb seconded the motion. The vote was <br /> unanimous . <br /> 2. Board of Appeals . T .e Board of Appeals urgently <br /> requested the appointment of alternate (s ) to that Board citing <br /> reasons in a written communication dated August 19 , 1987. Mr. <br /> Edward Govoni has expressed interest in serving as an alternate . <br /> Mr. Lawrence moved that Edward Govoni be appointed as an alternate <br /> to the Board of Appeals for a, three-year term to expire in August , <br /> 1990. Mr. Carter seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous <br /> 3 * Assistant Harbor Master. For the purpose of rati- <br /> fication of action taken on August 19 , 1987 , Mrs Lawrencie moved <br /> that the Board of Selectmen appoint David Ryan as an Assistant <br /> Harbor baster retroactive to August 19 , 1987. Mr. Carter seconded <br /> the motion. Mr. Gottlieb stepped down from discussion and action <br /> on this matter. Mrs . Thomas voted in favor, Mr. Ryan has agreed <br /> to serge without compensation and will primarily patrol the <br /> Popponesset Bay dredging project area. <br /> 4. Department f Public Works . The Director of the <br /> Department of Public works and the Personnel Board recommended <br /> the appointment of Kevin Dicks for the position of Skilled laborer <br /> to become effective September 8 , 1987 at the rate of $7 .29 per <br /> hour, Mr. Carter moved that the Board of Selectmen appoint Kevin <br /> Hicks as Skilled Laborer for the Department of Public Works , such <br /> appointment to become effective on September 8 , 1987. Mr. 1awrence <br /> seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous . <br /> 5. Police Department - appointment. In a memorandum <br /> dated August 18, 1987, the Personnel Board recommended the appoint- <br /> ment of Evelyn Green for the position of part-time Administrative <br /> Clerk for the Police Department. MrS Gottlieb roved that the Board <br /> appoint Evelyn Green as part-time Administrative Clerk for the Police <br /> Department as recommended, Mr. Carter seconded the motion, The vote <br /> was unanimous . <br /> 6. Police Department - salary s to increases . The Chief <br /> of Police recommended salary increases to Step 2 to - become effective <br /> on September 2 , 1987 for: Michael is Sexton$ Patrolman; Matthew.ew . <br /> Clancy, Patrolman; and Randy J. De e llo , Patrolman, Mr. Gottlieb <br /> moved that the Board of Selectmen a,pprove the recommended- salary <br /> step increases for -Patrolmen Sexton, Clancy,, and DeMello to become <br /> effective September 2, 1987. Mr. Lawrence seconded the motion, The <br /> vote was u rani ous <br /> 7. Conservation Officer - resignation. John Varkonda, <br /> Conservation Officert submitted his resignation in a. letter dated <br /> August 17 , 1987 e to become effective September 11 , 1987. lir. Lawrence <br />
