r <br /> DAD OF SELECTMEN Page 3 <br /> MINUTES <br /> MONDAY MAY 61 1991 <br /> School Committee Discussion <br /> s a representative, of.."C�ape�� .d Collaborative, Dr. Petti informed <br /> the Board a. letter from the State House to Mr. Walfer Healy' s office <br /> stated this was a legal procedure to make advance payments, With the <br /> financial ia.l crisis and the fiscal sca.l constraints of the To%m, this is legal <br /> and alright to prepay tuition. <br /> Selectman Hanson asks why the Board did not see the Letter? fir, <br /> Conery stated the letter was not sent to the School Committee but t <br /> the Collaborative. <br /> Jim Conery asked lir. Reardon who he spoke to at the Collaborative <br /> Town Counsel noted he spoke to the bookkeeper on this subject matter. <br /> Some questions included why a. bill to iashpee The reply was this was <br /> a, request by the Town. Has this been done before? The reply, not that <br /> I know of. Is l a.shpee the only Toon requesting prepayment The reply <br /> of the bookkeeper was yes, <br /> We are trying to maintain a. school system states Dr. DeMoura. <br /> If the Town gent with the recommendation stated Selectman Carter, the <br /> Board would most likely recommend the transfer, <br /> If there wasn' t such a distance, we wouldn' t be in this situation <br /> states Selectman Hanson. Ile wish all departments would have the luxury <br /> to have the money, We are not convinced your need the extra money. <br /> If the audit is done before the October Annual 'down Meeting, there <br /> will be an opportunity to tr°anser° the money states Selectman Carter. <br /> Janice Mills asked if the School. Department is to take the money <br /> out of their budget now The reply of the Board is yes to prepare the <br /> budget with the reduction of $150, 000. <br /> You can' t run a. school that way states Dr. Petti. No matter what <br /> the audit shows- states Mr. Conery, unless there is a critical need, <br /> we can' t get it, <br /> Jim Vaccaro informed the Board the money goes into a reserve account. <br /> If the-.need is critical, you don' t have to go to Town. Meeting for the <br /> funds. <br /> Mr. Harrington has talked with three independant auditors. The <br /> selection should be made within a few weeks, The annual audit is noted <br /> to be on the 15th of May, Dr. Pett i asks to obtain a non partial <br /> individual for consideration. <br /> 7102 p.m. The School. Committee has left the Meeting. <br /> d 'ournment <br /> The motion was made by Selectman Jacobson to adjourn the Meeting <br /> at p.m. The motion was seconded by Selectman Carter.
