r
BOARD o.F SELECTMEN Page 1
MINUTES
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 99 1991
Re creation enter;
We never and you can correct me if I am wrong and I agree with
Mrs. Caffyn, we didn' t see the letter from Mr. Reardon states Select-
ran Lawrence s I never saw it. I never saw. # .there were clot o
things we didn' t see,
The reason for it is very simple, 'We never got the chance to
see it because up until we tools the vote 3-2, to suspend the negotiations
and litigate, we haven' t seen all of the things that we are talking
about today.
What vire did and .its very simple* We had a chance to do one thing.
We had a chance to have a. rec center in this Town on the opening day
of school, one week ago or two days ago, We don' t have that. And
the reason we don' t have that is because we suspended negotiations on
a. 3-2 vote of this Board states Selectman Lawrence without ever dis-
cussing,
is-
cu sing: ever discussing what the entire proposal was or what Mr.
Reardon' s letter was about, we never sat down to discuss it as this
Board*
We never ever discussed that, We gave lip service to it, we
fenced around with it. We- never actual.y sat down and said ok what
Hanson and Carter have proposed isn' t something we want to do. But,
maybe there is something else we can do states Selectman Lawrence, we
never did it. we closed off by a 3-2 vote of the Board to litigate#
We don' t have a. rec center. we won' t have a rec center for five years
as we don' t have any money, Mere is a chance for us to have one.
Do you want to get into a discussion o'f what the values of the _
lana were asks Selectman Lawrence? Ia:shpee has enough land to do any-
-.thang they want to do for roan , manyi ,decades. Its not that big a. deal.
The conflict of interest thing is a.lot of crap. The point is that we
turned down the chance to negotiate for a. rec center without ever, ever
giving it the chance to listen to' the whole thing. We didn' t do it.
3-2, we voted to go to . courtâ– r
Selectman Jacobson asks Wil if he would to like to add to it.
April 25, 1991 which is about one week before Annual Town Meeting states
Selectman Hanson we ret with Field' s Point and. I asked Doug Storrs,
Nice-President of Field' s Point Partnership after we had discussed all
of this stuff. I said, did you agree to the concept of what we were
doing, put this in writing and send it over to us to take a look at it.
Dated April 25th the draft he seat over to us.
It' s right here. I di ;t have one of them, ,states Selectman Jacob-
son,
acob-
son# Gee, maybe it' s the original. we looked at it, the day we got
it states Selectman Hanson. The day we got it we said, this has got
to go over to Town Counsel for review, we directed Kevin to put this
into the hands of Town Counsel to look over and make comment on, He
did so. He sent it back to Terry and I . At that point, I said to Kevin
set up a date with Field' s Point, Town Counsel and us to discuss the
points of his remarks, Is this in fact true
On two occasions informs Mr. Harrington. But, before we had a.
chance to sit down with Field' s Point and work out the problems, that
Town Counsel saw, this Board decided to vote no and to litigate* That
is where we are right now states Selectman Hanson.
