i
1
s
BOARD OF SELF TME1 Page 19
MINUTES
*
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 99 1991
Recreation Centex*:
I -think you as Selectmen should have done this before any
vote was taken states Mra Ferguson. There are things found wrong
with the agreement and it should of been discussed in Executive
Session. To continue negotiations should of happened.
We tried to make it happen states Selectman Jacobson. Particular
things that you were concerned about, should of been brought out
states lir. Ferguson. They never should of gone on and when and only
then when anything comes life this that has to be brought before the
Town of l ashpe e. That is one thing that all S el ec tmer:,-know when they
work in this town that if you don' t bring it before the people to be
voted on, your in deep trouble. That is what should of happened. It
should of never gotten to this particular -instance here, It stands in
great heated debate in a, small room here on a Monday right. It should
of long before taken place.
If what you stop From happening states Deidre Greelish with
selling a. piece of Town owned land with a. possible value o $7509000
for $225, 000 then, thank you very much because we could build a. nice
roc center* for $75090000
The other thing that has not been brought up tonight is if that
building is going to be leased . `or five years, for one dollar and at
the end of Five years, the church is gone and la.shpee is sitting there
with $225vOOO possibly to put into another rec center. Again instead
of selling another piece of land ,dive years from now for maybe more
I think that you have a. serious problem if your Executive secretary
is not making you aware of confidential material you have gotten from
your Attorney states Mrs. Greelish,
I am uncomfortable thinking -there could be other pieces of paper*
floating out there that any elected officials are not aware of and I
wonder why the appraisal wasn' t in the file states Mr, Greeli h.
We had a. Selectman leave office and another take his place, if you had
appointed another person to the committee, you didn' t have a complete
file on it,
We have to be looking long term. When you are poor, eating is
more important. It is not that bad. We've got two schools in this
Town and we are trying hard to take care of our kids. We don' t have
to give away any land to get this done states Mrs. Greek.sh. We have
to start taking a. long view. All of America has to including la,shpee
to take the long view.
Mike Lane representing the Christ of King youth group stated the
need for a. rec center. Mr. Carter and Mr. Hanson have laid the ground.-
work for what could be a good opportunity to provide the kids with.:.',a
recreation center. If we wait Five years, we have moved a. whole other
group o -kids through school. We've missed the opportunity to provide
for those kids for one dollar per year.
I don' t think we should pass up this opportunity states Mr.Lanee
We should persue it and try to negotiate to get something for the Town.
It is an opportunity I think we should go after it
