f
5
BOARD of SELEC SELFTMEN 'age 2
MINUTES
O DAY, SEPTEMBER t 1991
ko
Recreation eater:
I'm not against considering what the Board has recommended stated
Dr. Petti, however I think, there are some questions that have to be
looked at. If you are really thinking of the children and you are
not going to rent the building until five years question mark then we
are right back where we started. We still don' t have a. rec center and
our children will not be served.
Number one, I would like some answers as to how you are going to
offer recreation to the Town children to the children of the Town o
Ma.shpee on Great Neck Road South. Most of the kids live off of Cotuit
Road and of'f Rte. 130. If you are going to have a rec: building, to
service the children of I a.shpee at the same time you should be looking
at a spot of where the kids will be seared.
Are you going to bus the kids after school? We are not even
busing the kids From Falmouth High School for athletic events states
Selectman Jacobson. The question has to be answered as to how you
are really going to serge the children of Mashpee with a rec center
in that location? Dr. Fetti
I find myself in violent agreement with Dr. Petti states Mr. Fd.
Baker. Its a. heck of a. note when there are things that effect the
Town that some of the people on the Board are not privy to . I think
the kids in Town ought - have a. rec center, I don't think waging the
children like the American flag is really the thing that we ought to
be talking about. As far as I can see, whatever money we get from
an activity like t a.t would go into the general fund . 'I know of no
way that that money. automatically goes into a. rec centeri, The towns-
people vote for it and the townspeople can vote for a. rec center in alot
of other places.
To get $135, 000 in your pocket if these letters are correct states
Nor~ Baker for a. piece of land that we have letter than a 50% chance of
owning all45 acres, Tt just doesn' t maks sense, e get50% chance
at a. piece of land that is worth $800, 000. We could turn that land
into money and there is at least one customer for it.
Think of the rec center you could build then and it wouldn' t be
for five years, it would be forever if it was built in the right place.
On the issue of the $135, 000 if these letters are accurate states Mr.
Baker, you are talking about lending that money to Field' s Point Corp.
for a. period of Five years at 5%. It is 5% simple interest, Which
would cost the Town an additional $60, 000 into the packets of Field' s
Point. It is unthinkable that this Board of Selectmen would not go
forward with the litigation, Going forward with the litigation is a
smart move,
I also feel there is an appearance of a conflict of interest
states Mr. Baker and I feel very, very strongly about it.
The negotiations were brought to a, point to where a. Lander was
was made by Field' s Point states lir; Tones. There should of been a.
response from the Board of Selectmen, How did -thele two things wird
up in the same basket? Mr. Jones recommends to go lack to Field' s
Point and separate the issues.
Mr. Virgilio stated Mr. Hanson has had endless devotion to the
Town, The issues aren' t even completed. This is in the best interest
of the kids who have nothing.
