F <br /> I # F <br /> BOARD of SELECTMEN Page 1 <br /> * <br /> MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15t 1991 <br /> Warwick Tay Residents re : Mashpee Pod and Gun club: <br /> Warwick Way residents were present to discuss their concern <br /> f increased incidents of gunfire entering their backyards . one <br /> individual actually hit trees in our backyard explained one <br /> resident . <br /> The Police has indicated the Gun club had reversed its <br /> direction of fire - and they were not authorized to shoot in that <br /> direction. <br /> ON'e Warwick Tay resident complained of the unsightly trash <br /> behind the bunker and the potential health risk. <br /> Curtis Hendricks a member of the Gun club spoke on behalf of <br /> the club. We are a sanctioned by NRA. There are safety zones <br /> and factors they abide by. The different tines of shooting are <br /> properly posted, but 'sometimes removed . The club is doing all <br /> in its power to make sure it i s. a safety range, With concerns of <br /> the trash, the club removes its own debris . There are incidents <br /> of non-members dumping trash on their site. <br /> With concerns of the firing incident, the club feels it was <br /> .most likely a non-member and a random incident . The Gun club is <br /> concerned for the children as well as safety. They do not wish <br /> to be bad neighbors . <br /> Selectman Jacobson asks if the firing direction could be <br /> reversed? It is - our only direction informs Mr. Hendricks . <br /> During construction of the trap range, the gate was opened <br /> with the moving of equipment states Mr , Hendricks .s . He doesn ' t <br /> believe the shooting incident involved a member. <br /> The residents complained the gate was not locked this summer. <br /> It is now locked with their recent complaint , They are concerned <br /> for the children playing on the other side of the bunker which <br /> are not necessarily their children, but children of the neighbor- <br /> hood . <br /> We all have children. No one warts to see them hurt explains <br /> one Gun club member. The signs are posted; keep out-danger.. We <br /> can ' t change the direction of the shooting. <br /> The Rod and - Gun club is exempt within 500 feet of a dwelling <br /> by the General court since it has Leen it existance for a number <br /> of gears explains counsel . <br /> Selectman Jacobson suggests the neighborhood association <br /> place flyers door to door for safety. <br /> Selectman caf f n suggests the Police Department do an over- <br /> view and advise a plan to the area residents. Selectman Marson <br /> notes that Brad Fish may be able to offer some assistance. He <br /> also suggested placing a red flag at the entrance to indicate <br /> shooting is going on. <br /> There is a sense of cooperation here states Selectman Jacob- <br /> son. -She is concerned for the children and recommends the resid- <br /> ents talk to Mr. Fish as well as distribute flyers of the problem. <br /> Mrs . Greel i sh suggests the Guru club members explain the <br /> concern to the children. They may in turn show more respect . <br />
