The motion was seconded by Selectman Lawrence. <br /> . The vote of the Board is unanimous. The' vote i 4-0. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Harbormaster Position <br /> Lew Schwartz, Frank Homeyer and Ben Gordon were present to <br /> represent the Waterways Commission on the recommendation of the <br /> Harbormaster ' s piton. <br /> The Waterways Commission has recom ended. a great deal of study <br /> be dome before the appointment is made for the Harbormaster '- position. <br /> The Commission unanimously voted to recommend Paul Somerville be <br /> appointed in to tporary capacity to perform the duties of Harbor- <br /> master, Mr. Schwartz noted Mr. Somerville knows the area and <br /> territory. <br /> There are ten---assistant -harbormasters states selectman Hanson. <br /> He asks if- the Waterways Commission had any consideration towards <br /> them for the position? <br /> The Board of selectmen make the final judgement states Mr, <br /> Schwartz . A comprehensive study is recommended to view this on a <br /> broader basis with careful consideration. The Commission felt that <br /> Mr. Somerville was the best qualified. <br /> There are many jobs left undone states selectman Jacobson. <br /> The assistant harbormasters are volunteers . Mr. Somerville is <br /> familiar with the waterways. An inventory is also necessary. This <br /> would give an opportunity for the Waterways Commission to rake further <br /> recommendations . <br /> Alot of problems with this position has been the inadequate <br /> funding suggests selectman Caffyn. This would alive ample time <br /> to resolve me of the issues of concern, Mr. Somerville would 'be <br /> ideal . This woul.d. etnd his current hours to , a full time position. <br /> Mr. Harrn ton noted Mr. Somerville ' s hours are approximately <br /> 2 - 7 hours per geek. Additional Harbormaster ' s hour's would make <br /> the difference for a forty hour week. Costs would not have to be <br /> added for health and workman ' s compensation reports selectman Caffyn. <br /> This should be with the understanding of no new regulations <br /> in effect states Selectman Jacobson. <br /> Some of the duties Mr. Somerville will perform under the supervision <br /> of the Waterways Commission are overseeing equipment and storage, <br /> repairs of navigational aids , mooring bills , help with the develop- <br /> ment of the budget, attend Waterway hearings and e. a member of the <br /> Harbor Dredge Committee suggests Mr. Homeyer. <br /> Selectman Lawrence is in agreement for Mr. Somerville to tape <br /> cage of the two departments under one salary. HO suggests Mr. ' Harrington <br /> view this so there is no labor dispute . The B Sr d is in agreement. <br /> The motion was rade by Selectman Hanson to contact Mr. Somerville <br /> and offer hint the positon of Harbormaster. He is to be appointed on <br /> an interim basis for 13 hours as acting Harbormaster. The balance <br /> of his time is towards the Shellfish Department . This - is contingent <br />
