5 <br /> BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 3 <br /> MINUTES - ADMINISTRATIVE MEETING <br /> THURSDAY, MARCH 5, 1992 <br /> • School Building Committee Report: <br /> Alec Watt and Bill Jones were present to give an update to <br /> the Board as to the final recommendation of the fifteen classroom <br /> addition to the Middle School . <br /> Additional furnishings and furniture at an estimate of <br /> $6 ,000 per room will be included in the request for Town Meeting <br /> approval . This amounts to $90,000 relates Mr. Watt. <br /> An estimated $32 , 500 is included in the estimated sum for <br /> architectural services for conversion of the Middle School to a <br /> high school . The School Building Committee indicates that it is <br /> necessary to have the feasibility study done and essential to be <br /> included in the services of the architect . <br /> Mr. Watt indicates the sum of $32 , 500 is an estimate derived <br /> from Carlson Associates . The study may not amount to the <br /> estimated sum. <br /> It is critical to address the needs of Mashpee now that <br /> Falmouth has asked us to take care of our own high school <br /> students relates Mr. Watt. <br /> For the fifteen classroom addition to the Middle School the <br /> construction estimate is $1 , 790,000. Architectural services : <br /> $157, 800, Furnishings and Furniture: $90,000, Bond Cost : $30 ,000 <br /> and Water Main estimate : $70,000 . The total is $2 ,137 , 800 as <br /> approved by the School Building Committee. <br /> Selectman Vaccaro indicates that this will be short term <br /> • borrowing. The motion should not include the word bond in the <br /> article . <br /> Mr. Jones relates that there is an absence of a workable <br /> plan in education to appear with the growth of the Town. He <br /> indicates the Committee has worked hard to determine the needs of <br /> the school system. The timetable is short to accommodate our <br /> children . He recommends the, Board of Selectmen implement an adequate <br /> planning program. <br /> Selectman Jacobson relates the Board will try to work within the <br /> system to resolve this . Selectman Caffyn adds that Tom Fudala ' s <br /> comprehensive study will give a profile of Mashpee with answers to some <br /> of the questions of school needs . <br /> We have to look at plans based upon known factors indicates <br /> Selectman Vaccar.o. In terms of the school population we know the known <br /> factors with the children that are already in school . <br /> We gave direction to Mr. Harrington and Mr. Polsi to update the <br /> Master Plan relates Selectman Vaccaro. <br /> The Board gave thanks to the School Building Committee for their <br /> efforts to research and determine the school needs in Mashpee. <br /> Doug Storrs : <br /> Mr. Storrs was present to address the Donna ' s Lane road <br /> issue with the Board . He indicated the broad goals are very <br /> similar , but the specifics are not 100% agreeable . <br /> . Major points of agreement include a two lane roadway. The <br /> two lanes will be twelve feet wide with up to two foot <br /> shoulders on either side . There will be a dedicated left turn <br /> onto Route 28 . <br />
