BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 9 <br /> Minutes <br /> • MONDAY, MARCH 23 , 1992 _ <br /> COMMUNICATION AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> Selectman Caffyn indicated that she talked with Elias <br /> McQuaid with regards to the testing of sediment and fish in <br /> John ' s Pond . <br /> Mr . McQuaid met with Suzanne Condon from the MA Department <br /> of Public Health. Progress is being made in this area . The <br /> Environmental Protection Agency will be doing the testing of the <br /> pond . It will be completed with results known before the swimming <br /> season begins . Within ten days we will know the when it is to <br /> begin . <br /> It is not yet know­n_`of_`wh_o_�is1 to absorb the cost of the <br /> three water samples totbe'taken from the pond for presence of <br /> pesticides . The cost is approximately $900. <br /> With regards to the FEMA reimbursement , there is a time <br /> extension of six months since not all debris has been disposed of <br /> at the Town landfill. The extension has been approved until the <br /> end of the fiscal year indicates Mr. Harrington. <br /> 9: 58 p.m. Selectman Mills left the Meeting. 10 :02 <br /> p.m. Returned . <br /> • NEW BUSINESS : <br /> Deputy Chief of Police re : Policy/Town Employees Use of <br /> Chain of Command Whistle Blowing Procedures , On-Duty Speech <br /> Rights/Restrictions and Transactional Immunity Issues : <br /> This item will be held at this time indicates Selectman <br /> Jacobson. <br /> Discussion relative to Community Partnership Program: <br /> Selectman Vaccaro has recommended the Board formulate a task <br /> force to develop a broad-based community partnership designed to <br /> enhance , improve and showcase the Town ' s natural resources <br /> through a series of joint initiatives . <br /> The idea was brought about when the Chamber of Commerce <br /> asked his company to do a survey of "What turns people on to <br /> Mashpee. " Study results indicated the natural resources of the <br /> community are favored assets of the Town. This includes the <br /> beaches , tranquility and nature trails . <br /> The Cape Cod Commission did a similar study . The findings <br /> parallel his firms study. <br /> We should do something as a community to enhance our natural <br /> resources indicates Selectman Vaccaro. This should also tie in <br /> with cultural and heritage activities to be a sense of community <br /> in our Town. <br /> . Selectman Vaccaro recommends the Board of Selectmen endorse <br /> a taskforce to improve our natural resources , showcase our heritage and <br /> improve the beauty of our community. <br /> 1 <br />
