BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 5
MINUTES
• MONDAY, MARCH 23 , 1992
Flea Market/Bazaar Guidelines :
Under the guidelines , the Police, Fire, Health Department
and Building are to conduct inspections at various intervals. We
are looking to tighten the system relates Mr. Harrington.
The proposed annual fee for each vendor is $100.00, but it
is up to the Board to determine the rate . For the one time
vendor or weekend vendor, the fee of $100 .00 is too high suggests
Selectman Mills .
Louis Marandola; manager and operator of the Flea Market
indicated there are approximately 50-75 professional vendors who
have tax identification numbers. More local people are selling
at the Flea Market due to the lack of jobs and unemployment . He
indicates he does not charge non-profit organizations a fee.
Non-residents are charged a fee of $10.00 per day in April .
The rate increases to $15.00 per day in May. From Memorial Day
to Labor Day, the rate is $25 .00 per day relates Mr. Marandola .
Residents are charged half the rate of non-residents .
The amount of vendors are dependent upon the weekend and the
weather informs Mr. Marandola . Safety has not been a problem.
The Flea Market brings a lot of people into the community and
gives an overflow effect to Mashpee Commons.
The suggestion was made to surcharge the daily vendors.
Town Counsel indicates this was contemplated in the original
• draft , but was objected by the operator .
Selectman Mills has agreed to work with Mr. Marandola .
****The motion was made by Selectman Caffyn to take the Flea
Market/Bazaar Guidelines under advisement . A sub-committee will
be formed for further review. The motion was seconded by
Selectman Mills . VOTE: Favorable. 4-1 .
