BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page <br /> MINUTES <br /> MONDAY, APRIL 6t 1992 - - <br /> PUBLIC DISCUSSION: <br /> letter was addressed to Selectman caffyn with regards to <br /> an appointee and the issue of unpaid taxes . This will be brought <br /> up again under Public Discussion to give the person who wrote the <br /> letter an opportunity to explain her position. <br /> Elias McQuaid re: Press Release : On this date, various <br /> representatives met to discuss the testing of John ' s Pond . As <br /> indicated the pond has been tested bimonthly for VOC compounds <br /> since May of 1991 . Tests indicate there are no traces of O ' s <br /> in the pond . - - <br /> Tith the data available at the present time, the and ' i <br /> a e tc i. a=r =e f=� - � n a=1a� -es Mr,,,.Mua d . <br /> Nit-ional Guard Bureau has agreed to fund additional TOC , <br /> pesticide water tests , and sediment VOC and pesticide testing. <br /> This will cost approximately $4 ,000. <br /> The DEP has agreed to fund fish pesticide testing of two <br /> bottom fish. The results will be available by May 15, 1992 . <br /> This is- an approximate cost of $16 ,006. <br /> The National Guard Bureau intends to male a press release on <br /> this subject relates Mr. McQuaid . The National Guard Bureau <br /> agrees to pair for pond testing of water and sediment, The <br /> Mass . Department of Environmental Protection has agreed to pay <br /> for fish testing as related from the information submitted by the <br /> Military for their intended press release. <br /> The public will be informed of the results prior to the <br /> start of the swimming season. <br /> As related from the Military press release , there are four <br /> ground water plumes of contamination from the Base that are in <br /> the vicinity of John ' s and Ashumet Ponds* The contamination is <br /> fuel and solvent related . There is presently no evidence of Base <br /> contamination in either pond . Testing will continue to evaluate <br /> the impact of the ground water plumes . <br /> As related from Mr. McQuaide there will be of no cost to the <br /> Town. The testing is exactly what we have asked for with results- <br /> in and analyzed before Memorial Day. <br /> Selectman Mills expressed her concern to' the testing of <br /> bottom fish. She indicates that if trout is tested , the results <br /> will be questionable since the pond has just recently been <br /> stocked with trout . <br /> M . McQuaid relates that edible fish will be tested in the <br /> pond . The age and type of fish will also impact the decision of <br /> the test results . <br /> *The Board is in agreement to release the Town ' s press <br /> release independently of the Military tae. <br />
