He suggests the Board take this <br /> consideration under advisement at this time. <br /> Selectman Caffyn has closed the Public Hearing at 7 : 25 p.m. <br /> The Board will take this under advisement at this time. <br /> Beach sticker Policy for review and approval : <br /> The Board requests further clarification as to the allotment <br /> f poach stickers to the resident/taxpayer. This item will be <br /> scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 1992 for further review and <br /> approval . <br /> 7: 30 p.m. selectman Caffyn called for a five minute recess . The <br /> Board will hold the discussion relative to Shellfish Aboriginal <br /> Rights in the Great Room. <br /> 7: 35 p.m. . shellfish Aboriginal Rights Discussion; <br /> **selectman Mills has stepped down for this discussion . <br /> Selectman Cffyn indicates that this is the first step to an <br /> issue that is important to our native arerlIcans . she suggests <br /> for all to listen with an honest open mind <br /> John Peters known as slow Turtle is the Director of the <br /> state ' s Commission of Indian Affairs and the supreme Medicine Man <br /> for the Mashpee Wampanoag Indians. <br /> r . .Peter ' ' indicates that he has talked with Torn Cahir <br /> relative to a "rider" of laws written with regards to hunting and <br /> shellfish rights of native americans. Mr. Peter ' s relates that <br /> the laws do not pertain to Indians, The right to hunt, fish and <br /> shellfish is a basic human right for the Wampanoag Indians* <br /> Mr. Peter ' s welcomes the Town of Mashpee to take the right <br /> step to try to understand where they are coning from and to take <br /> away any bitterness. <br /> Vern Pocknett noted that the Great spirit gave the Indians <br /> the right to hunt and fish for their families . It is our way of <br /> life in terns of religion . The canopy is the sky. We listen to <br /> the wind and rain. We appreciate the animal we kill indicates <br /> Mr. Pocknet . The animals in our wildlife are our brothers. The <br /> ground is from our ancestors. <br /> Boston attorney Lew Gurwitz was present to discuss this <br /> concern. - He has worked with Indian people from all over the <br /> country. He indicates he is trying to preserve the Indian way of <br /> life and retain a value system. He motes that we cannot continue <br /> to take and take.
