BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br /> MINU'T'ES <br /> THURSDAY MAY 28f __ 1992 <br /> Present . Selectman Caffynr Selectman Vaccaro, Selectman Mills, <br /> Selectman Jacobson, Selectman Costa <br /> Administrative Assistant Joyce Mason <br /> Guests : Paul Ott, Cobert Sullivan, Dean Driscoll <br /> Meeting Called to order by Chairman Caffyn a p.m. <br /> Adopt-A-Road/Beach Program: <br /> Robert Sullivan was present to discuss the Adopt-A- <br /> oad/Beach Program with the Board . This program began in Texas <br /> in 1985 notes Mr. Sullivan. Twenty-five states now participate <br /> in the program. <br /> Town Counsel ' s letter of August 5 . 1988 indicates that if <br /> the program is appropriately run, the benefit would outweigh the <br /> risk factor of liability involved . The recommendation was also <br /> made to change the age from 17 years to 15 years of age. <br /> Mr. Sullivan motes that a child under 18 years of age would <br /> require supervision. Children 12 and under can participate with <br /> the presence of an adult . <br /> Participants in- the program are to donate five hours a year <br /> for their town, The adopting groups are responsible to pick up <br /> litter in their designated area . Responsibility is effective for <br /> two years. <br /> Greg Taylor is coordinator for the roads and Robert Sullivan <br /> for the beaches . Safety procedures are included in the agreement <br /> informs Mr. Sullivan. <br /> The VFW is a major group, to begin this program notes <br /> Mr, Sullivan. They are in the process of looking for donations. <br /> A logo has been developed for program recognition. <br /> Selectman Costa indicates that this is a great idea for <br /> Mahpee. Their are many ways to generate funds for this program <br /> in town. <br /> Selectman Catffyn suggests to advertise on cable and informs <br /> organizations such as church groups and garden clubs, She <br /> recommends to post a list of participants in Town Hall for <br /> rc ogn i t i ori. <br /> *The motion was rade by Selectman Costa to support the Adopt- <br /> A-Foad/Beach Program in Mashpee. The motion was seconded by <br /> Selectman Mills. OTE: Unanimous . -o . Selectman Vaccaro was <br /> not present for the vote. <br /> Selectman Costa gage commendation to Mr. Sullivan for his service <br /> to Mashpee. <br />
