i <br /> BOARD OF SELECTMEN Race <br /> MINUTES <br /> MONDAY, J NUARY 251 1993 <br /> 7 : 35 p,m. Disability Rights Committee; <br /> Dr. DeMoura, Marilyn Farren, Bill Hauck and WIlliam Hansen <br /> were present to .disuss the report of the Disabilities Rights <br /> Committee with the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Several recommendations were made with regards to the Town <br /> of Mashpee complying with the Americans with Disabilities <br /> Act , The committee. has recommended the Town purchase as soon as <br /> possible, tern telecommunications devices TDDs and installation <br /> of these devices in various Town offices for an estimated sum of <br /> $50000 <br /> Dr. DeMoura noted that the Police Department has one TDD in <br /> i the dispatch department , If we are to provide access to sources <br /> of public information, we are in need of more informed <br /> Dr. DeMura. <br /> The committee has recommended the Town employ in May, two <br /> interpreters for all Town Meetings. According to State <br /> regulations, two interpreters are necessary if a meeting is to <br /> last longer than one hour. The gage is set by the State noted <br /> Dr. DeMoura, The approximate cost is $250 per interpreter per <br /> meeting.. <br /> A loop -is also necessary to be installed in the area of the <br /> gymnasium to be utilized for the hearing disabled related <br /> Dr. DeMoura . The- estimated cost to install the loop i $ o . <br /> The installation of a handicapped toilet facility for <br /> handicapped individuals - is also necessary reported Dr. DeMoura . <br /> An alternate is to schedule public meetings in a building that hs <br /> handicap facilities . The estimated cost to install a handicap <br /> toilet facility in the Davis School is $15,000. <br /> Ire the area of the Selectmen ' s Office, the ramp has to be <br /> redesigned informed Dr, DeMoura, The pitch is too steep and it <br /> does not have the appropriate platform. The door may also have <br /> to be redesigned. The estimated sure to complete the handicap <br /> rarnp is $2500 . <br /> The Archives Building is also required to have public access <br /> noted Dr . DeMoura. If public meetings are to be held - at this <br /> location, a handicap toilet facility is necessary. The short <br /> term coal is to scheduled public meetings in the Davis School <br /> informed Dr. DeMoura. <br /> The same rule applies to the Indian Museum and DPW Garage <br /> informed Dr. DeMoura , He recommends the Civil Defense Director <br /> e assigned to the Disability Rights Committee. <br />
