BUDGET WORKSHOP: <br />Police Salary/Wage: 53: <br />It was noted that the Police Department currently does not <br />have a maintenance mechanic, The position has been vacant since <br />FY 92 when the employee retired. If the position remains vacant, <br />the sum of $19,000 may be available for surplus. <br />Discussion followed relative to an employee maintaining all <br />Town owned vehicles. Greg Taylor will be onsul ed as to the <br />possible-useof his mechanic to maintain all Town owned vehicles. <br />It was noted that the above surplus may fund ai DPW custodian <br />to maintain all Town owned vehicles. Privatization is also being <br />reviewed relative to custodial services. <br />Fire Salary/Wage; <br />Mr. Whrinur indicated that the Fire Department <br />Salary/Wage Account is level funded. <br />Fire Expense: 5: <br />The Beard reviewed several increased areas in the budget of <br />the Fire Department* This includes; fire energy, repairs, <br />maintenance, tuition, communication, EMS training, in -state <br />travel, dues and membership fees. <br />*The Board is in agreement to request the Finance Committee <br />to review the expense ledgers of all major departments. In <br />particular; Fire Department communication, Police and Fire <br />overtime, vacation time, sick timer personal days and holiday <br />pay. It was recommended to review the contract of the Deputy <br />Chief of Police and the Chief of Police relative to holiday pay. <br />*The Beard is in -agreement to request the Finance Committee <br />to locate additional savings for recommended expenditures. This <br />includes the re -institution of the Lifeguard Program* <br />It was noted that the Fire Department hires a mechanic for <br />the sum of $8000. The Beard requests the name of this employee. <br />The Beard requested that each page of the Budget Packet he <br />numbered for next year. <br />
