Chief Frye's vacancy requests are for the following <br />positions: Skilled Laborer-Maintenance/Mechanic (one); Public <br />Safety Dispatcher, permanent full time (one) ; Public Safety <br />Dispatcher; non standard part time (four). Chief Frye's memo <br />includes a request for scheduling of a written exam for the <br />Public Safety positions to establish a new eligibility list. <br />49 Chief Frye stated. his department had a f u.l time custodian <br />and the money is in the budget; ; the position has been vacant for <br />over one year. <br />Mr. Whritenour explained there are two issues The Board <br />asked hire to investigate' at the last budget review session. The <br />first is adequate maintenance of all Town buildings. . should <br />e centralize or decentralize 0 a 0 is it appropriate to <br />privatize or use Town employees. The second is vehicle <br />maintenance for the Town . . how is this being achieved . 6 is <br />is it possible one consolitated vehicle maintenance - rogram for <br />the Town could be implemented through one department . . . would <br />savings be realized. Be will be submitting a report to the Board <br />shortly regarding these issues* <br />Selectmen Mills suggested The Board hold off on the <br />custodian position until orations are made known, Chief Frye <br />stated he would like to hire a custodian of his choice because o <br />department security reasons. Selectman Costa expressed agreement <br />with Chief Frye's statement. Deidre Greelish referenced the July <br />Mass. Municipal Assoc. Conference 6 . municipalities were <br />finding low bidders on janitorial services and the like . . . <br />then finding a lower cost using Municipal employees . . . govern- <br />ment bidding against the private sector, Selectman Costa <br />expressed opinion bids on a custodial position for the Police <br />Department should state a security clearance has been passed. <br />
