BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br />MINUTES <br />THURSDAYf MARCH lit 993 <br />Present: Selectman Caffyn, Selectman Vaccaro, Selectman Mills, <br />Selectman Jacobson, Selectman Costa <br />Executive Secretary Robert Whritenour <br />Guests: Rita Sousa, Mary Anne Gibbs, Augustus Frederick <br />Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Caffyn at <br />p.m. <br />AugustusFrederick _ -_Leisure Services Director Candidate_: <br />Augustus "Gus" Frederick was present to discuss the position <br />of Leisure Services Director with the Board._ Mr. Frederick <br />reviewed his professional experience as it relates to <br />administration of fitness, youth and family programs, budget <br />development, staff training and facility management. <br />Mr. Frederick indicated that due to financial constraints, <br />his position as Physical Director of the Cape Cod YMCA was <br />eliminated last year. Mr. Frederick has been working as a <br />substitute teacher on the Cape and'..part-time at a local fitness <br />center during this interim period. <br />Mr. Frederick indicated that he aided in the development of <br />community programs for the YMCA. This included a Driver's <br />Education and Computer program using IBM and Macintosh <br />computers. He designed most of the brochures use-d , budgeted for <br />the programs and aided in the selection of instructors for the <br />programs. <br />When asked of the development of Human Service programs, <br />Mr. Frederick indicated that he would begin the process by making <br />contact with individuals who would be instrumental in these <br />particular programs to begin the network process. He has <br />experience working with the Big Brother and Big Sister programs. <br />In Pennsylvania, Mr. Frederick implemented a grant program <br />for special needs children. This was a Special Olympics program <br />for children between the ages of 4 through 12 consisting of <br />trackr field and swimming events. Mr. Frederick indicated the he <br />is familiar with grant writing and will maintain contact with <br />local representatives regarding attainable grants* <br />A Rent -A -Teen program could be instituted in Mashpee <br />informed Mr, Frederick. This includes odd jobs such as washing <br />windows to mowing lawns. Contact would be made to individuals <br />looking for service. Mr. Frederick noted that he is familiar <br />with the JTEC program. <br />9 <br />
