(' <br />BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 2 <br />MINUTES <br />THURSDAY,F MARCH l 1 , 1993 <br />Augustus Frederick Leisure Services Director Candidate: <br />Mr. Frederick indicated that he is interested in developing <br />a Teen center for Mashee. The formation of a Leader's Club <br />would benefit the pre -teen and teenager informed Mr. Frederick. <br />The students would he trained to teach programs such as swimming <br />or gymnastics,,By-doing this, the student would obtain a sense <br />of self worth and interaction with youth and also obtain a <br />certification of accomplishment ent noted Mr. Frederick. <br />High adventure activities such as canoe and ]pike trips could <br />he instituted for the local youth informed Mr, Frederick, A <br />rally or an overnight could be planned to discuss problems such <br />as living at home, sex and drugs noted Mr. Frederick. Students <br />could also learn to program and direct television programs. <br />When asked of addressing substance abuse, Mr. Frederick <br />indicated that this could -be discussed through the school system <br />or recreational programs, He recommended to incorporate this <br />discussion into existing programs. Mr. Frederick indicated that <br />he is prepared to discuss this concern with all ages. We need to <br />set an example for all children informed Mr, Frederick. <br />Mr. Frederick indicated the he is comfortable working with <br />seniors and has experience with the YMCA Men's club. He <br />recommended to conduct a "wellness day" for seniors, health and <br />fitness programs and day trips. <br />Mr. Frederick has considerable swimming experience in life <br />saving and water fitness programs. He has also taught soccer, <br />basketball, football, track and field, baseball and tennis. <br />Mr. Frederick was a life guard for eight years, <br />Mr. Frederick indicated that he would like to be involved in <br />the Town' ,Mas er Plan. He is interested in developing open <br />space and bike patois for the Town. <br />To aid in identifying the needs of the communityâ–º <br />r. Frederick indicated that he would discuss the individual <br />needs and expectations of each Board Member and Department Head. <br />He indicated that he would like to be involved in the high school <br />program for Mashee . <br />Mr. Frederick also related that he is familiar with <br />management conflict. He has experience in working with diverse <br />board's and committeels. To ensure the betterment of the <br />communiy, Mr. Frederick indicated that he would talk to the <br />individuals on a one on one basis. <br />
