BOARD of 5ELECTMET Page
MINUTES
MONDAY, MAY , 199
:08 p.m. Michael Barry_- E911:
Michael Barry, a former Mashpee police officer/dispatcher
presented a citizen's petition to the Board relative to the
Enhanced 911 system. Mr, Barry submitted the actual petition
consisting of approximately 325 signatures to the Chairman of the
Board of Selectmen..
Mr. Barry has requested the Board reconsider their decision
of May 1, 1993 to join the regional E-911 system. An updated
report of the E- 11 was submitted to the Board for review*
In an emergency situation, I want the most direct access to
the person- I need to speak to, which is the Mashpee dispatcher
indicated Mr. Barry.
The petition is signed by Mashpee residents who wish to see
our 911 calls answered on the local level indicated Mr. Barry.
The local 911 will provide the public with the quickest
response. The most important factor is what the people want
related Mr. Barry. You can't justify answering the E-911 call
twice.
Mr. Barry urged the Selectmen to review the requirements for
training► staffing and cost savings related to the E-911
system. I feel the Board has been misinformed and there is a
inaccuracy in the numbers indicated Mr. Barn.
Mashpee resident, Al Polsi and Dispatcher's Gail MacDonald
and Louisa Oakley spoke ,in favor of local control of the E-911
system.
Selectman vaccaro recommended to allow Sheriff DeMello to
speak on the proposal at this time for further clarification and
discussion of the -911 proposal.
8: o p.m, Sheriff DeMe l l o - E 911
Barnstable County Sheriff; Jack DeMelloindicated that he
would stand by his commitment to . provide the free service
whether it is one Cape town or fifteen* I do not have
reputation of lying stated Sheriff DeMello,
If Mashpee elects to remain on the local level, I will
provide the support, training and technical expertise to provide
response indicated Sheriff DeMello.
C7
