BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 9 <br />MINUTE <br />ONDAY MAY 101 199 <br />E-911-Report and Recommendations <br />Gail McDonald, dispatcher for the Town of Mashpee for nine <br />years voiced her concern to maintaining local control of <br />dispatching. Two dispatchers remain necessary on the local level <br />related Ms. McDonald, <br />e should keep the control in Town indicated Ms. McDonald. <br />Every second counts. There are a lot of senior citizens in <br />Mashpee that we }snow indicated Ms-. McDonald, <br />George Baker spoke in favor of the regional system, <br />Mr. Swenson indicated that the information will appear on the <br />screen as to the location of the call. The regional dispatchers <br />will remain on the phone and assist to any medical needs reported <br />Mr, Swenson. It is a one button transfer* <br />Chief Frye voiced concerns o the regional system* He <br />indicated that his people know their work and they do it well. <br />Chief Frye indicated that he was on the Review Committee and <br />voted against the regional proposal. <br />Selectman Costa; a member of the review Committee indicated <br />that he feels convinced the regional system will work and save <br />the Town money. Mashpee will be better off with the regional <br />approach indicated selectman costa, <br />Selectman Mills; a review Committee member indicated that a <br />first she was negative on the regional approach., she has <br />concluded that the regional E-911 system will become a safety <br />valve to Mashpee. selectman Mills has concluded that this is the <br />best option for Mashpee. <br />Selectman Jacobson is in agreement. This will become <br />another safety valve, Selectman Jacobson indicated that she is <br />convinced the regional system ,wi l l work for Ma shpee . She noted <br />that her decision does not reflect the position of our <br />dispatchers. <br />Selectman Caffyn objected to the regional approach. We <br />should tale advantage of the equipment the Telephone Company is <br />offering to the Town. We should take the opportunity to try this <br />method first on the local level explained Selectman Gaff n. <br />Selectman affyn- has recommended to use the equipment and <br />review the concept as the regional E-911 system develops. <br />***The motion was made by selectman costa to accept and join <br />the nty's E-911 proposal. The motion was seconded by <br />Selectman Mills. NOTE; Favorable. -1, Selectman caffyn is in <br />opposition. <br />
