BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page <br />MINUTES <br />MONDAY, MAY 10■ 14D 99 <br />-911 Report and Recommendations: <br />ions <br />Under the -11. System, all County dispatchers will receive <br />certification through the APCC 40 hour telecommuni ator course <br />and APOO 32 hour emergency medical dispatch course informed <br />Mr, Whritenour. <br />Mashpee dispatchers do not receive this type of training <br />indicated Mr. Whritenour, An important element to the regional <br />system is the access to trained emergency medical dispatchers <br />noted Mr. Whritenour. On the regional dispatch level, an <br />emergency call will be handled within 10 seconds or less. <br />The County proposal is the most advantageous to Mashpee <br />indicated Mr. Whritenour. The maximum cost to the Town is <br />$4,0000 <br />Michael Barry, a resident of Mashpee and previous Police <br />Officer - Dispatcher for the Town voiced his concern as to the <br />accuracy of the regional system. <br />The guidelines of the E-911 do not pertain to Mashpee' <br />needs explained Mr. Barry. Why should we defer responsibility <br />from our own dispatchers? To place the equipment in our building <br />could be to our advantage for public safety in Mashpee indicated <br />r. Barry. <br />We should continue to improve our local control related <br />Mr. Barry, What if the system fails? What if there is a <br />liability issue? Where is the additional money going to come <br />from in the future? What are the personnel costs? <br />Ralph Swenson, Director of Communications; County Office <br />indicated that there will be no additional costs to the Cape <br />towns participating in the regional Ei911. Two additional staff <br />members will support the regional operation explained <br />Mr. Swenson. The additional -monies will derive from the <br />Sheriff's excise and current resources, <br />With reference to -the liability aspect, Mr. Swenson <br />indicated that liability will be defined between the local and <br />regional level as outlined in the agreement. <br />Mr. Swenson indicated that the Telephone Company is <br />supporting the primary piece of operating equipment. state <br />Guidelines mandate adequate staffing levels. He feels confident <br />the system will work., <br />0 <br />
