BOARD OF SELECTMEN ME Page <br />MINUTES <br />THURSDAYr OCTOBERI.71199 <br />Re uest for Advertisement of Assistant Planner Position: <br />*The motion was made by Selectman costa to advertise for the <br />position of Assistant Planner as recommended. The motion was <br />seconded by Selectman Jacobson, VOTE: Unanimous. 5-9 . <br />Selectman Mills has offered to serge as liaison t <br />coordinate the advertisement process with Marilyn Warren. <br />:25 p.m. APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS; <br />James Lon ; <br />Mashpee resident, James Long was present to discuss his <br />application for the position of Council on Aging Director. With <br />Mashpee rapidly growing and with the increase in elderly <br />residents, Mr. Long indicated that he has the skills, talent, <br />ability and general awareness of the health, emotional and social <br />needs of this age group. <br />Mr. Long indicated that he has had many years of experience <br />in human and healthcare services administration and management. <br />He has experience in budgeting, personnel, therapy, social <br />programs, volunteers and retirees. <br />Mr. Long has plannede organized, staffed and controlled a <br />variety of people with a high degree of success and diversity. <br />He indicated that if appointed to the position, he will be a <br />hands on type of person to be on site on a daily basis with the <br />volunteers and people who utilize the center. <br />The role of the Director is to incorporate as many people <br />from Town into the programs related Mr. Long. This would - <br />include; providing transportation, workingwith-the Outreach <br />Coordinators and making the Senior center attractive to elders. <br />Mr. Long recommended to conduct a session with other senior <br />centers for increased communication, He suggested to survey the <br />residents about existing services and programs. <br />Mr. Long indicated that he feels there is a lot. of interest <br />in the community. His job would facilitate this interest. He <br />has the ability to carry out policy with ar smile. <br />To familiarize himself with Mashpee and its needs, Mr. Long <br />has contacted the AARP and JML center to -discuss elder services. <br />He has talked with the county on health services and Meals on <br />Wheels. Mr. Long has visited the Senior center. <br />I* <br />
