Dare School - Tom Stewart Page 2.
(Xevi n speaking)
When we have to sena a child out of town for education, we have
to pay for that. If we have an available chair at our school, we
do not mind ; it does not cost us anymore to educate them.
Tom: I fully agree. I will write and request they send something
in writing stating this.
Kevin: Something else they should pay is transportation., for the
child, to and from school. Now, if we have a run going in that
direction, it do6b -not cost any more. But , we do not have a bus
running to the Jr. High in Falmouth.
Selectman Hicks inquired what the Dare School was now offering.
Tom: Pottery making and woodcrafts. Dverything is the same, only
we do not have on-grrounds education. We have eleven children at
the school which we provide a home for.
Frank then asked, if he was- .aware of the possibility of losing
their Certificate of Education.
Tom: ;I would expect the certificate to Dare would be secondary ;
the Bohool no longer applies.
Kevin: Then 7►ou. would have no objection if they were to cancel?
Frank: I think they are going to notify the State Board of Education
that YOU are no longer being conducted as a school.
Tom: I would expect it. We are not a private school and would not
need a certificate as an approved secondary private school. We
can *ar-tion without a certification. It gives you status , but it is
not a requirement. What Dare- is - is a home.
Kevin: The entire scope has changed :since it began.
Tom: Not really, .1we pgvform the same services. The only thing that
has changed is the decision made last summer not - t' provide education
on-grounds f o r the children. We felt a public education would be
better for them.
Kevin: It is a different scope then what we discussed a couple of
years ago; then what we- are talking about today.
Tom: The only difference is, the children are attending public school.
Kevin: This is not necessarily a problem today, but can be in twQ
or three months from now. Tt is a problem we want .resolved. now, We
