I
Minutes of 12/30/74 Page 2.
6) Mashpee has lost a dear friend. Kenneth Ba-rclay, Shellfish
Constable died. December 30. Buriel will take place in
Whitman on Thursday morning. A Epr&y:Cf flowers have been
sent in ,the name of the Board.
7) Paul Mills has been contacted to take pictures for the
1974 Town Report cover. Suggested is the new vehicles from
the fire department , highay, and the ambulance with two
Tnen':repr-esenting* each department. Mr. Mills will take
several pictures for the Board to make a 'final decision.
It has been requested these pictures be black and white,
because ofth.e e,treme cost of color. He will report to the
Board within,-_- 10 - 15 days..
8) Russell Peters, .President of the Indian Tribal Council met
with the Selectmen>-wlt'.ri two proposals : A request for 'Dermissi.on
to use on a yearly basis. Attaquin Park, for the annual !':powwow"
and other ceremoni:al ._affairs. Also, some insurance the use of
this area will be available to the Council in future years.
As stated by Mr. Russell Peters-, "Perhaps another Board would not
be as ag:r-eaahle.:=_ as the present one'.
It is noted Attaquin Park cannot be deeded to any one owner,
as it is Town-owned property, and the only fresh water beach
available to the townspeople. Even with the aid of legislation
this would not be supported the the reasons named above. However,
the Board is in full agreement, and will support, an article
submitted by the Tribal. Council at' the annual town meeting
requesting authorization to use the Town-owned property for
official functions., up to an unlimited time. As long as this
received approval by Town vote; it would take a Town vote to .
recind any action taken at this- meeting.
Mr. Russell Peters also .suggested 'Title VI ' - extention of
CETA funds will be made available to non-profit organizations.
It-rler hoped+hese funds will allow the Council to hire five _-or
six pe.onle to clear this projected area at the Park and help
to maintain it.
Permission will be granted to the Council to allow work to
Proceed prior to town meeting vote.
Selectman O' Connell suggested to Mr. Peters to seek parcels
Of. Town-awned land from the Assessor. 6office. Perhaps one
-parcel, which is not ear-marked by another committee, would meet
the requirements the Council is loojr!ing- .for, and it could be
turned over to them. Therefore, they would own land in common,
enabling them to obtain some funds to help develop their program.
Mr. Russell Pet'ers met with the Executive Secretary- on Tuesday
afternoon to discuss CETA funds and the proposed project. A
Park and Comms.s s i on has been established for the proposed CETA
.funds.
Meeting adjourned,:at 10:30p.m.
Jt
