COOMBS <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY, MARCH 31, 2009 <br /> MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> 3:30pm <br /> Members Present: Donna Zaeske, Kim Richards, Barbara Cotton, Deb Greene, <br /> Liz Hendricks, Patti Kenny, Dan O'Neill, Kim Palmer, Liz Wilber <br /> The meeting was called to order at 3:30 <br /> No one was present for Open Forum <br /> The council members approved the minutes from last month's meeting. Motion to <br /> approve was made by Barbara Cotton. <br /> Kim Richards discussed Countdown to Kindergarten. Kindergarten registration <br /> begins April 8`h in the KCC cafe. Dan O'Neill told us he was asked if there would <br /> be any opportunities for children going to kindergarten to visit the cafeteria. Mrs. <br /> Richards said that they will get an opportunity to be in the cafe during the ice <br /> cream social that will be held on May 14th. <br /> Math Night is Thursday, April 16`h, it is going to be in conjunction with CPC <br /> (Community Partnership for Children) resource fair and we are expecting a great <br /> tum out. The CPC fair has at least 20 vendors expected at this time. <br /> Preschool Structure for 2009-2010: <br /> Ms. Zaeske explained that the KCC preschool would see some changes for next <br /> year. She said that the needs of the Mashpee preschoolers drive the changes for <br /> instruction and scheduling. Some of the changes that will occur include: <br /> The '/2 day program for preschoolers, age range is 3-5 years old with <br /> Friday scheduling changes. Fridays may include parent workshops at <br /> school, parent meetings and/or home visits by teachers. The <br /> administration and staff members are working on schedule ideas for <br /> Fridays. Liz Hendricks suggested that KCC work with preschools to <br /> help working parents to make plans for 1/2day preschool-to-daycare <br /> situation. Barbara Zuwallack will be contacted about this. <br /> There is an article in today's' Cape Cod Times stating the importance of <br /> high quality preschool programs. Research states that high quality early <br />
