He <br /> assumed the building initially is for 1 ,000 students. He also <br /> assumed the student8 curriculum will revolve around english, <br /> math , Science and global studie . Administratively it will be <br /> divided into 2 "houses" each with about Soo students. The <br /> numbers will have to be worked out statistically with the <br /> consultant. The Committee reviewed D r , DeMoura' s overview o f the <br /> academic program numbers . <br /> There will be an applied aril program (metal , woodworking , <br /> industrial tech . lab and business lab) however the high school <br /> cannot duplicate the technical /vocational high school . <br /> Mr . Jones asked what percentage of Mashpee students are <br /> considered college preparatory' Dr . Deou ra thinks it would be <br /> in excess of 50%,, <br /> Dr . DeMou r a said there should be a music suite off of the <br /> auditorium. He suggested an auditorium for at least 500 peoples <br /> The Committee d i soused the size of the auditorium. Shou l d ' t be <br /> large enough for the entire student body? There is a state re- <br /> imbursement <br /> e- <br /> imbur er en formula for the auditorium which will have to be <br /> considered . Chairman R i n i i o asked Gus Frederick to look at the <br /> need q i e of the auditorium. A 'large auditorium is expensive to <br /> maintain , especially i f it will only be needed f or 2 times per <br /> year. Is there flexibility for, enlarging the space? The <br /> Committee will detail this problem to 'the architect. <br /> The Educational Facilities Needs Committee recommended a core <br /> facility for 1350 students with an initial capacity for 800 <br /> students . Dr. DeMoura recommends 1 , 000 students at first. Tom <br /> Fudala also agrees 1 , 000 students makes more sense . This <br /> Committee agrees with a core for 1350 to d e nt and initial <br /> capacity for 1 , 000 udent , <br /> D r . DeMoura stated the gymnasium is an important con idera ion. <br /> He recommends a 4 station design , with a curtain or divider used <br /> o that 4 groups can use it at the same time. <br /> Mr . Jones stated many people today feel high school education <br /> doesn' t work very well . Coes that have any effect on how you <br /> configure this building , make space more flexible? <br /> Dr. Deou r a responded it is his personal belief the future of <br /> education is in greater utilization of technology and should look <br /> t designing the building for that. He would like to see 5 or 6 <br /> computers per classroom networked together , possibly hooked to <br /> 2 <br />
