Do you want to see the school from Route 151
Peter asked if you want to hide it. It is the most important building this
town will ever build?
Tom said all other projects in this area require substantial buffers . You
could cut a few view corridors.
Paul said it is a massive building , You don ' t want to see all of it.
Ed Frenette added what is unique about this community is the surprise of
finding this school , surprise is a more sophisticated approach . It
becomes a retreat.
Mark sal d the canopy of the trees is 0-40 feet and the foliage is up h i gh
You will be able to see through most of the trees . They wi 1 1 also help to
reduce the noise which will be significant at this location ..
Merry sue noted the we may not build all the fields at first and we w i 11
need extra space for those -Future fields,,
She also had a concern about the orientation of the academic rooms , Pay
said if they run east west, the windows will be north south and it will
work out. Mark will keep that in mind when they begin work on building
arrangements .
Greg Taylor suggested there be a little separation between fields to
provide for other type space/activities -i . e benches , picnic areas ,,
Mark said the planning of the fields is as important as the building
itself . You want to clearly know where everything i s , have it feel
comfortab I e ,
Paul Griffin noted that the cost of construction and maintenance is high
(for the building) in this modular scheme.
Mark said they will look at various schemes and compare and contrast them.
Designing one big box would be most efficient and the least expensive to
maintain .
The Committee agreed that the river is important. They will not assume
they will be able to use the Housing Authority land . option #3 was the one
they preferred ,.
Bob Fournier told the committee the Com Electric energy saving program i s
called Green saver but no information will be available until July of this
gear . They have the names of the people to get in touch with then .
They received a 3 page list from the custodial staff and Bob spent some
time with them. Most of the items were common sense th i ngs K
They would like to see an irrigation system for the bal l fi e 1 ds but it i s an
expense , There is a tradeoff between operating and capital cost.
Greg Taylor said you have to have an irrigation system to grow grass here .
It should be part of the capital cost because those are partly
reimbursable.
They have completed the code ( building and zoning ) evaluation and will be
meeting with the Building Inspector next Tuesday .
Tom Fuda l a updated the committee on the Southport Development, He read in
5
