MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MI NUT F S THURSDAY , MAY 26 , 1994 K. C. COOMBS SCHOOL RM 211 Members Present: Bill Martiros , Bill Jones , Stege Greelish , Janice Mills, Peter Di ni zio, Merry Sue Ahlgren Also Present : Ian Aitchison , Ray Bordwe l l , Mark Chen , Bob Fournier , Fd Frenette, Dan Sa1iene7 Shannon Scarlett Greg Taylor , Dr . De dura, Tom Fudal a, Bob wh r i tenour Meeting convened at 4 : 35 . The architect' s goal today is to get a building configuration , attached to a site p1an, which they can bei i n to study in greater detail . The conclusion reached at Tuesday ' s meeting was the performing arts center would have the lower , South east portion of the site. Clark Chen reviewed a building "flow chart" . The building will have a major academic component -- with 2 houses , an athletics component and an arts component--- theater , music , visual arts . The remainder is support and it should be attached thoughtfully to the rest of the program. Academic- make the houses 'identifiabl . The media center should be common to them. Two cafeterias, one belonging to each house with a shared kitchen . Administration , guidance and health -- work well together . Phys Ed - with a separate entrance . Theater can also operate as its own "building" , with a potential 3rd entrance . The Committee then reviewed the different schemes proposed . 1 . Simple, as close to an envelope as possible with holes cut in to provide light and air . 2 houses , with shared support looking onto the courtyard ; Media center in the middle of the shared support. The cafeteria would be open , that space could then be used with gym or theater for functions . A partition would divide it into 2 cafeterias , The architects provided sketches of the views of the building , looking in from Old Barnstable Fid and the view from the visitor ' s entrance . The building will appear gigantic and institutional . Greg Taylor said breaking it up with the jihthause is a good idea, it has a lot of Caps heritage. . Theater, gym and administration shift down and away from academics. Compress the courtyard . The east side is treated as less important frontage , Visifor entrance is moved down near administration. The building could be closed off in 2 different places , . NQt an efficient design , a high grossing factor . Classrooms on only 1 side of the corridor. 4 . From the bus drop off you would see 2 distinct buildings - 2 houses . Shared support behind the 2 houses , the other half is theater , gym, :administration and bridging it is the cafeteria, bridging it on the 2nd I Qo r is the media enter t Cafeteria looks out to an open court, There are a lot of places to shut the building off for single use i , e theater .
