of the corridor and would force another elevator . Bob Fournier added it
could not stay within 2c , because it would be too high.
Ray said they did not consider 3 levels .
Tom asked where the parking is for scheme 1? How long a walk is it from
Visitor parking to the main entrance{?
Peter said the middle school has a long walk and the elderly have a hard
time getting to the building . Because this will have a lot of community
use , it is important the walk not be too long ,
Merry sue said she is concerned that the 2 houses stick out at the end but
are not connected. It will be a long walk from the end of one house to the
other , Bill Jones agreed .
Mark Chen said there is a program that talks about 2 houses and a lot of
you are now challenging i t. It is one of the most interesting new
innovations i t makes the school a manageable size . I f you support it you
have to stick with it and lean towards a building that supports that.,
Janice asked if you can get to the gym without going through the cafeteria
and without going outside? Walking through the cafeteria i s uncomfortable f
Ray said it is the food court idea . The space becomes totally useable when
you close off the kitchen .
Greg Taylor suggested i f the shared c`iassroom area were not as long , th e
academic wings could be closer together.
Ed P renette said they hope to reach a consensus, on the direction . It
doesn ' t have to be finite .
Peter said the Committee seems to have reached somewhat of a comfort level
on scheme 5 and are not even close on the others .
Janice suggested changing the cafeteria with the theater .
Mark suggested bringing the academic wings in closer and elongate the
shared space . It might be more expensive that way .
Ian said they should be careful , in his opinion scheme 5 is already over
budget.
Bob Fournier said it is too early to tell that.
Merry sue noted the auditorium will be used a lot less by high school
students than the gym will , could you swap those two spaces. The
auditorium does not need to be in the center of the school .
If they did that, there would be a problem with the placement of the
potential pool .
Peter is concerned about complicating things by moving the academic wings
in closer . we have to remain true to our directive to get the most for our
dollar .
Janice made a motion to make scheme "A (the 5th scheme discussed
our primary consideration and focus the attention on this design
and try to -fine tune i t. Merry sue seconded the motion . 4 members
were in favor (Peter , Janice , Merry sue and Bi l l Marti ros ) one
against ( Bill Jones) .
3
