SITE PLAN Dan sa l i en presented the revised site plan . They have given the outdoor spaces more character . There is double barreled entry with egress from ofd Barnstable Rd , islands dividing the lanes . He proposed the first two islands be wooded and the third could be lawn , opening up the view of the architecture . Student parking , at northwest corner for 225 cars . Visitor a.nd faculty parking also has 225 spaces and can be used for athletic facilities . There is also parking in the rear of the building . The parking areas are curving ; by hugging the corners it provides for more of a buffer . Generous woodlands can now occur on either side of the classroom wing . From inside , there is little sense you are next to a parking lot . There is a ring road around the building , as required by the Fire Dept . To out costs , the southerly lane could get access through the parking lot. It could save $50 , 000 in road costs . He will discuss this at Thursday ' s meeting with the Police and Fire Dept: Bill Marti ros asked the total acreage for the school , parking and fields? Dan has not calculated that . Bill said the Committee was given sites . other sites were not considered because they were not big enough . we have 200 acres and seem to concentrate it all in one area. Dan said they are responding to a number of influences with varying agendas . There is a request to remain 500-600 Feet from the river , a request to remain 400 feet from 151 , to provide a buffer on the 151/01d Barnstable Rd corner and the negotiation process with the performing arts center . Peter asked Bill if he thinks the comms* ttee compromised the siting of the school because of the performing arts center? Bill said absolutely . The school siting should be in the best location . We should have invited them in and showed them where the high school i s . The Committee agreed that is what they did , sited the school first . Steve added they asked the committee to move the school and we didn ' t. Dr . DeMoura explained they do fire drills regularly and 1 , 100 child ren will have to be out of the building . Is there room for thea if the parking lots are filled? The Fire Department says the area for them to stand has to be paved and plowed in the winter . Ray said they put the school where it works best with the exterior functions . The site is not so compact. Educationally you have to be concerned about the relationship between gyri and fields , principal watching kids coming from their cars. The control of the school improves as the adjacencies are more direct. Janice would agree it is not compact enough for the reasons Ray listed ., She wants to know how much wooded area there is between the building and the parking l ots� Teachers usually carrying a lot with them, their lot seems miles from their teaching stations . As a school committee member, she would like to know the maintenance cost for the lawns . Unfortunate 1 y , the school department does not have the funds needed for maintenance. 4
