Bill Martiros said this reinforced his belief they couldn ' t do a good job
in Mashpee . They are not creative . They did a poor job in the schools we
looked at. They were not responsive to our request for information before,
how responsive will they be in the future. When answering about the
mistakes , Mr. Anderson blamed everyone but himself. He does not have any
confidence in them.
Bill Jones does not feel they are very imaginative group . Feels they are
limited in comparison to the other 3 firms.
Joe disagreed with the limitation . Thinks they are creative. They could
help on the education programming . They could meet our cost and schedule.
They will use material in a creative way. They could design a school that
would fit in well with what we need , would have flair and would meet the
site considerations . They would do an excellent job.
Janice said they showed they have a lot of high school experience. She was
impressed with the amount of work they did for Mashpee high school . She
did however not like the school they presented . They have experience. We
need national input for our programming .
Paul said they were the only firm who stuck their neck our by presenting a
design ; they took a gamble . They showed what they could do for Mashpee.
The positives are we know what kind of person Carl is , cooperative,
listens, we have a good relationship with him. Gary Larson always listened ,
every comment made was on the plan . We know they can meet the cost budget.
This Committee scrutinized them very closely and looked at a lot of
schools . They don ' t walk away from their customers, they do long term
follow up. The national component of Perkins and Will is a heavy weight to
overcome.
Steve said he does not hold the ugly school against them. The
architectural concept for their projects are all over the place, very
diverse . He is still concerned about details , he was not happy with the
answer they gave to his question about that. The cafeteria at Fall River is
ugly and doesn ' t work well . Can they do the job? All the candidates can .
Who can do it best for Mashpee? He is not as happy with DRA as with some of
the other firms .
Peter said he hopes everyone is over the site selection experience and that
is not effecting our judgement with DRA because that was not their fault.
The cafeteria at Fall River was noisy . Their color schemes are very bright
but they are urban school . overall programming is this Committee' s
achilles heel . We have to have someone who understands a program. DRA will
have to reach for it. He would pick them second .
Merry Sue noted it is interesting the firm whose buildings we cannot get to
is our first choice .
Paul said Perkins and Will does have the programming but we haven ' t seen
their designs. Are we willing to take that for the programming?
Steve thinks it is a solid partnership. We could go the safe way with
Keyes and feed them information .
Merry Sue said we don ' t have the information to feed them. I don ' t have
enough information to offer to them if they don ' t have anything to offer to
me.
13
