MASNPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MINUTES TUESDAY, MARCH 22 , 1994 TOWN HALL Present; Peter Di n i z i o, Merry Sue Ahlgren , Bill Marti ros, Paul Griffin , Bill Jones , Janice ills , Joe Polito, Steve Greelish Meeting convened at 4 : 05 LE IEP MCGOVERN SOV I S Present were Gerry Poc i l l o, Director of Business Development, Steve Stein , who has been the pro, ect manager for the Prudential Center, Pick Herbol t, SPA Engineering , a ISA mechanical , electrical firm with a lot of local experience. Lehe r McGovern Bovis has been in business since 1979 , specifical1y as a construction management firm, they are not general contractors. The firm has grown dramatically since 1979 . They have worked ed ori the Statue of Liberty renovation , Ellis Island, Euro Disney, the Chicago school system and a lot of public schools in NYC, They are also working on the Edison school project, a private p ro j ect that i s trying to build the new American school . LMB is coordinating the work and will be responsible for the national effort of getting the schools in place. we can bring that kind of experience - technology and school programming - to this project . If this firm is chosen , they will bring a project manager who has very specific school experience to th i's project, The committee can interview that person and be sure they feel comfortable with them, How they approach a job: They are always tracking time, cost and quality, They have certified value engineers on staff . In New York it is a certified discipline. They look at the elements i n a project that can realize the most savings. We do not look at design elements . we look -at fundamental e 1 ements f i rst, see what we can do better,. Team building , con tructab i l i ty review and value engineering are going on at the same time. We like to be involved in the Architect selection , when they are selected we usually come on board at the same time. Mr, Poc i l l o explained they define the scope of work , the budget and the existing conditions, what are the definitive material selections - furnishings? We will hold workshops to get the team together. It is important to do this again when the contractor is hired . L 8 has tremendous experience in bid packages. You want to bring the contractor into the team asap, get thea on the team. Steve Stein discussed the day to day work of the pro,4 ect manager , as it related to his job at the Prudential Center. when they began that job the budget was established and the general contractor selected , it was too late for suggestions and Value engineering .
