Dan Tishman talked about the lessons they have learned from their school <br /> projects: <br /> 1 . There is incredible ownership of a school and much more public <br /> interest - a 1 1 the parents , at least, are interested, Every participant on <br /> the team has to be incredibly sensitive to the communities needs . Tishman <br /> will help to be the translator of a complicated process. <br /> 2 . Planning of the school is the crux of the project, building it is <br /> relatively simple with good complete documents , Planning for maintenance <br /> and operation , how will it function today, 10 , 15 , 20 years from now. <br /> . How do you deal with issue re: users security and safety so you know <br /> there is a very safe, secure environment for the students to be i n , <br /> Why should you select Tishman . we are full service , in house firm. How would you attack that and have you had to do this for other <br /> clients? <br /> Mr. Tishman explained a division of their firm i s Tishman Research , started <br /> in 1970 ' s with the specific goal to research energy savings in all <br /> buildings . It is supported with grants from construction industry . They <br /> have invented and marketed devices and have retrofitted a lot of buildings . <br /> it i s a sensitive area we do a lot of work in ,, <br /> Marty Gordon said they have just provided a dual fuel system at the <br /> University of New England in Maine . They will have the opportunity to <br /> choose oil or gas. on cape cod he is not sure the effect the cape cod <br /> Commission would have on a duel fuel system. He said you mast give a <br /> facility as much diversity as possible . Because this facility will have <br /> community use, you will need a system available for 7 days a week , 365 days <br /> a year . There w i 1 1 be times you don ' t have to heat or cool huge sections of <br /> the building . They will take a. hard look at heat recovery systems . school <br /> buildings are mandated by the state to provide a reasonably strong element <br /> of fresh air,, more than in an office bui 1 di ng . <br /> Joe asked how they would interface with the Architect, ghat would your <br /> relationship be? <br /> Mr. Tishman said they already eG. d have a good relationship aship with MMA. They <br /> would suggest the project Management staff to meet with them on a weekly or <br /> daily basis and on an issue by issue basis . Many architectural firms <br /> protect their designs from value engineering , SMMA does not. we would deal <br /> more directly with the architect than anyone else , <br /> Janice said during the construction phase they proposed to have 2 people on <br /> site , will there be anyone onsite during pre-construction? <br /> M r. Tishman responded someone will be assigned full time to the p roj ect. <br /> Usually it happens out of the construction management office or the <br /> architect' s office because there is no site activity .
