r
e
Dr. DeMou ra said that is where they differ. For example , Indian Education
w i l l have some c 1 asses , but w i 1 1 not be schedu 1 ed 80%, it i s an e 1 ect i ve .
There are other rooms that will not be used at 80 .
Ed Frenette said they are trying to tighten up the program now, as Ian
suggested , because there is less anxiety doing it now than in the next
phase.
Dr , calabro noted his original program had 33 classrooms plus Indian Ed ,
now there are 31 .
Dr . DeMou ra noted a lot of the added space is for community use .
Ray Bordwell asked where the 155 sq feet per student comes from?
Dr. cal abro explained i t came from a 1976 study , based on a number of
schools . Since then , the State has made several allowances to go above
that, for example , guidance doesn ' t count towards that nor does special ed ,
there is a community use allowance .
Ed Frenette summed up that there are 3 parameters to meet :
- $151 . 80 per sq foot
155 sq feet allotted per student
28 . 7 town meeting maximum approved . They all have to be put in the pot,
but the lowest one governs ,.
Special Education : Dr , De ou ra said i t should not be considered a teaching
station , it is planned for a pull out program.
Merry sue noted that they need storage space - 2 at 35 sq feet.
The Committee agreed to add storage space to two special ed rooms . *
Teats Roams - de they need 2 team rooms for boys and 2 for girls? They are
nice to have but they are a luxury .
Large group classroom: Dr . DeMoura feels if something has to go, he would
suggest that.
Dr . Calabro suggested thi's morn will probably hold study halls, in house
suspensions. whore will they go if this room is not available?
Dr . DeMoura said they wi 1 l be trying to reduce study hall time .
Ray said with these changes , we are down 1 , 000 sq feet . Do we want to put
in another classroom? I f we did , there would be 16 classrooms i n each house
and collaborative morn would be moved to the exterior of the houses .
**The committee agreed to reduce the program to l each male and female
team rooms and add 1 extra classroom,
Steve said it would be a mistake to separate the Indian Education out of 1
of the houses , in should be included se there is no perception of
separation .
Dr, DeMou ra suggested checking with the Tribal Council for their v i ews on
this subject. He explained the Indian Education program will be an
elective , open to everyone at the high school level ,
7.d Frenette understands there needs to be a feeling of inclusion , it will
oe a design issue on how they accomplish that,
This additional classroom will be labelled "general classroom" .
With the change there are 32 classrooms , plus Indian Ed , plus 2 health
7
